Question 1st gen 1.8 DOHC internals

who makes good internals for my 1.8 DOHC? I'm wanting at least a 10,000 rpm redline, pistons, rings, a head gasket, and head bolts/studs that can handle high boost(15-30 psi) and nitrous (150 hp+), and a lightweight crank and rods. And also, are their any companies/machine shops that specialize in machining and porting of the DOHC head. Also need a stronger timing belt (I saw a kevlar belt for an older volvo I had).

Also are their any performance thrust bearings available for this engine?

I'm planning on pulling a DOHC block and head from a junkyard, get it bored, ported, and polished and start building up the internals so I can do a quick engine swap when I'm finished building the motor.

If you want to rev to 10k, you will have to swap in a set of solid lifters from a Miata head along with the camshafts. You'll also need a better set of valve springs. Eibach sells a set. They are available on corksport. (www.corksport.com)
There are several companies that make the parts you mentioned for the BP. You just have to look under 1.8 Miata. Weisco makes forged pistons. Carrillo makes some nice rods for the BP, either that or source some B6T rods...they are as strong as the GTR rods. You can get the headstuds from ARP. Im not sure about the crank. Any reputable machine shop should be able to do the work on the head, they don't need to specialize in Mazdas.

EDIT:

I forgot about TODA also. They make a bunch of very nice parts for the BP:
Camshafts
Camgears
Pistons (11.0:1)
They also have an upgraded timing belt (I never knew about this one)
Be prepaired to dish out the cash for their products though.

Question

Do any companies offer a performance crank for the 1.8 BP engine. Also, where can I find a BPII block (just the block, no head or internals) from a GTR?

I don't know of any performance cranks fro the BP. The crank is already pretty strong, it should be able to hold around 400hp. The GTR block is the same as the NA BP block.

I've talked with a local motor shop and they're getting me some prices on custom Crower internals (billet stroker crank, rods, and cams). So far he's given me a reasonable estimate on the crank and rods, $2,200 for the crank (crank will be machined with larger journals and hims, I've heard the bearings go out easily beacause these areas are too narrow. It will also gain 3mm on the stroke) and $600 for steel rods or $2,000 for titanium rods (stronger and 32% lighter than the steel rods).

They also gave me an estimate of $1,200 for a port and polish . flyinmiata.com can do it for $450. Can anyone tell me if flyinmiata.com would be a good choice (not just compaired to my local motor shop, but in general)? I'm wanting to do an MK2 head swap from a 2000 Miata.

Also, I've read on the internet that the GTR block (BPII) had web stiffining (whatever the hell that is) to strengthen the block, can anyone confirm this?

Yes, the GTR has a stronger block. You won't find one, so don't even bother looking. You might be able to find the entire engine, or a half-cut, but not just the block. The BP block will do just fine. I think this is what you're looking for. Flyin Miata can build it for you too.

You can get a FULLY built, stroked BP ready for 25psi including headwork for $8000....

Thanx for the info. I saw the prices for built engines on their site earlier but I don't like being limited in what I can use (rods, pistons, and rings primarily). I'll probably stick with the custom parts so I can tune the car specifically for the turbo, fuel, and nitrous components I'm wanting to use. I'm also more of a hands-on kind of guy, so I'd like to build most of the engine myself (excluding machine work of course since I don't have the equipment).

Well, if you want custom parts, any manufacturer of rods/pistons can do custom.

True, but this local shop uses Crower, it'll be easier to deal with them face to face on getting the parts I need and getting the head and block machined without having to ship them out.
