$900 for a n/a motor, thats a joke. that better have 0 miles on it. i got my bpt for $850 in cali. wouldnt you rather do that, youd spend a whole lotta cash just to make 180hp the bpt does.

get a protege lx , with a slight hit in the front ,, you will probably pay like 50 to 600 from a private owner that just wants to get rid of the car.. Verify that the car runs or whatever ... then pull the motor/tranny / you will have all the mounts harness cpu , seats interior power windows , and all that jazz... not to mention rear discs. if you want to swap them ...
then part out the rest of the car to whoever on this site and call a wrecking yard and tell them to come get the car...

You will have a BP ,, fully working with everything you need and G tranny . You will have power windows maybe mirrors . if not you will have all the switches and crap ,,.. the motors out the doors . extra door handles, fenders. and a slew of other stuff..

Best part of this all . Your car will be fast out the box with the 1.8 and you will still have plenty money left over to get the turbo set up ,.. something like a T25 or a T3 or whatever floats your boat ..
If you want to know what I would do .. then you should know that is what I am going TO DO ....

Make sure you get the tranny from a protege LX. Everybody that has done this swap and uses the stock 323 tranny get upset because its not as fast as they expected. And its because of the tranny. With the BP engine and LX tranny you should be able to break into the 15's.

Yes, you'll also need the axles.

or should i just look for a pro lx cos ive seen some around here for like $2000 and then do a bpt, the only reason why i really dont want to go turbo is cos of reliability and everything else you have to maintain with it....

I read through the thread, and would like a little more info please.
Since my kid wrecked the LX 5spd, I'm pondering such a swap as was discussed here, and want to know if all my stuff will just bolt in. Or will I have to spend money? WHich year 323 is the best for such a Frankensteinien experiment?

you can get a 1990-1994 323 hatchback for like 500-1000 bucks .. I got my 91 for 500 bucks .. it was a little dirty on the inside and the engine bay , but some cleaning fixed that ..
Everything from the 1st gen protege will fit in the 323 .. plus you will need the harness and the ecu out of the protege along with the axles tranny, motor , mounts . .. you may have to use the 323 passenger mount though .. ..
and that should be that

You didn't spend $850 on your BPT, you spent $850 on the engine

in the end it's 2 grand or more.
