93/94 Protege DX or LX Vin # differences
How can i tell? I kinda need to know asap. Found a supposed LX but before i buy a trial of carfax and using that vin it says DX. LMK thanks!
Edit: Upon searching another vin i see a 93 DX with a dohc according to carfax. I thought only LXs had DOHC?
Edit2: This is all giving me a headache.. i basicly want a 93/94 as those have none of the 91/92 problems from what i understand. And i wanted the LX as i assumed that was the ONLY one with the DOHC 1.8 and good tranny. LMK if i'm wrong! Need to get a car asap!

CarFax usually says they are all DOHC, which is wrong. The early models have been known to have crank snout failure, which is what you've heard about. I think it's the 90-91 (92 also?) models but not certain.
There is a section in the Protege FAQ (link top right of this page) under Model Information about decoding the VIN.
