93 protege stall on right corners
Getting desperate - my automatic will completely cut out, usually once per day in a 50 mile commute, when taking a right hand turn. Never happened in a straight run or turning left. The car starts immediately after being put back into park. There are no other symptoms. From advice given on other websites I have checked the fuel pump and tank. The idle has been speeded up by my local workshop and all the ports etc blow out, but they have no idea why it occurs. Will the mazda dealer know? or are there any bright sparks out there with the solution. Thanks for reading and thinking about my frustrating problem.

are you gunning it around the right hand turns or just taking them normally. Do you have an intermediate shaft? I heard that they are prone turn causing problems around turns especially while giving it some gas. Hope this helped.....

I tend to drive up to the corners faifly fast then brake and turn. Not too sure what you are refering to about the shaft and how is this relates to the engine cutting out - can you provide more details ?? Thanks for your interest and help.

Gro-harlem - it happens whether the tank is full or low. I believe the problem is fuel related but I have checked the fuel pump which seems OK. Are there any other valves that might shut off the fuel to the injector ? Thanks for responding.

Ya I was gonna say the same thing.. My car shuts off on tight turns with a 1/4 tank of gas. I do think it's fuel related however. How long does it take the car to recover from stalling ? Or does it just kinda stutter until you exit the turn.

ne3ek - the engine pretty much closes down as soon as I start turning (when it happens about once a day) and does not recover, just comes a stop and I restart with no problem whatever - absolutely baffling ??!!

Had the same trouble last summer when i took fast right corner the car would cut until the speed want down. I did a gtx swap so the trouble hisn't here now but the mx-3 of my friend in which i put the 1.8l dohc i had has had that problem 3 times but it doesn't do it anymore and i have no idea why. I only put the engine in the rest his all mx-3 so i figured it would have to by the engine but you can not stall an engine like that i think it can only be cause by some thing electronic

just one of those little ****** gremlins eh? you could check everything under the sun and $50 bucks says it'd be the LAST thing any of us would think of it being... is it power steering related, are the belts slipping is something lose in the car that causes the motor to shut out partially if not, entirely, could it be a motor mount, would you be safer making left turns for the rest of your car's life? lol, sorry, the truth is, the mazda dealership isn't going to have any better idea about whats wrong with it, and what makes matters worse, they're gonna charge you $75 dollars an hour just to tell you they didn't find anything and you'll be in the same spot you were standing. you're speaking to the best people right now about your car... the ones that actually drive these japenese imports, and let me tell you, this one blows my mind. do a check under you hood, make sure everything is intact, not lose or wobbling around...when the engine shuts off, look for other noises or vibrations or anything. could be something stupid as a motor mount, bad ground, lose battery cable? likewise, you can even take it to a shop who can run it on a computer and figure the **** out for you. check everything out for yourself and see what the computer is reporting. keep us updated and we'll do the best to help you out.

Many thanks for all the useful advice, although I do not believe that the fault is electrical I shall check every possible connection and the condition of the wire harnesses to ensure integrity of the electrical circuits - I shall report back.

I had a similar problem with my Sephia (yes I have an Auto too). It won't completely turn off, but the engine would turn off for a split second when I make sharp right hand turns (only right hand turns... wierd) . There would be no power even if i gun it. It always got back to normal as if nothing happened once I completed the turn.
I don't know what the cause was and the issue didn't last for more than 2 weeks. It went away by itself. Now it doesn't do that no matter how much I try to recreate the situation. I've notice that the engine idle becomes erratic if I wiggle the MAF wire (at the maf end) a bit. So maybe you could start by checking the maf connector.....
Btw, I've also heard of some Escort GTs having this same problem.
Good luck...
