All right! I got a 1990 Prot 4X4

hi guys (and girls if there are any...)

I just got my hand on a little treasure... a 1990 4X4 Protégé!

It's a white model with no other particularly modified features...

the body is finished (i can't even think of repairing it...) and an oil leak got a fire started in the motor cage... I still have to take a look on the rest but most of the rest is not far from prime condition...

Do you think it is possible to swap the 4WD on my 1991? The frames are pretty much the same (if not exactly!)...

I'll try to send pics of both of them soon...

Maybe a new sport car project could appear out of that pile of junk... it would be a hell of a job to save the frame though...

i read almost every post in this section (drivetrain...) and i didn't find the answer to my new questions... is it possible to do it ... change the 4WD to a 91LX.... so far i got a no but it probably can be modified to fit can't it?

i'm pretty much serious about rebuilding that car... it had an incredible control and much power when it worked...

i'll take any info available.

the ORIGINAL BF 323 GT <86-89> is a turbo sedan, the BF GTX is a turbo 4wd hatchback. The BG Protege GT in canada is a 1.8 DOHC protege FWD with some extra widgets. We did get a 4wd BG protege, but they were ALL SOHC 1.8s, most automatics, you can replace the motor and tranny with JDM BG GTX parts and make it much stronger. As for the floor pans, from what derrick told me over the phone, the front cross member is actually 2 pieces on 4wd cars, the second piece is just sheet metal unibody on the FWD models. The gas tank is different, and the rear subframe mounting is different, these items arent a big deal, the hard part is making the steering rack clear the drive shaft and finding a way to bolt in the rear tranny mount <#4 i believe> that doesnt match up. a FWD can probably be made a 4wd without a huge ammount of effort, but its no bolt in.
ah. finaly found it... sorry

hmm.. yeah thx.. but i'll need a lot of help to carry it out.

If not i'm just gonna strip it out! hehe

and use the money i get from it to boost my other protégé

both plans sounds nice though!

anyone knows where i could get plans or pictures of the rear part and on how to pass the drive shaft?

i think your best bet is to verify that the AWD pro is in good condition, chassis wise, then sell the 91 and get a GTX or GTR BPT engine and AWD transmission, then you'd have a nice little project going

but however you do it, good luck with it!

i thought of rebuilding it first... to sell it around 4000 Can... but how much would you offer?

(i'm degreassing the motor today to take a good look at what it is good for...)

and the whole mechanic looks damn fine! lots of new stuff on it (radiator, tires, gaz tank, ...) interior is beige and gray no damage whatsoever, the trunk is as good as the interior.

The body, hmm there i'll need help from you guys to cousel me on what to do with it, the main frame is real good, i was surprised myself, but the doors are bad especialy the two behind. Wind shield is cracked.

thats about it, yup its 5 speeds.

The one we got is weak, but with some j-spec parts that can be cured (not cheap though!)

No problem in getting 250-300 hp out of a GT-R BPT-engine.
The only problem is the gearbox, as it tends to break when you pass 250 bhp, and often earlier.
Me and some guys on the 323 GT-R mailing list are working on a adapter kit which will enable us to use the gearbox from a Lancer EVO. This box can handle all sorts of abuse, and will enable me to go beyond my present boost level @ 1.5 bar... My gearbox haven`t busted yet, but i`m driving it waaay to careful. I`ll make a new post about it when we have made and tested the kit.
