Another one of my half assed questions
Ive been doing some research....not really...but ive come to understand larger throttle bodys will bolt right on to my 91 SOHC 1.8, wiring and all......Anyone have any information on this? I found that "aparently" u can get the throttle body off of a 2.5L v6 from a ford probe or a mazda (whatever that v6 came in). Obviously the throttle body would be bigger so it should at least add a few horses and let the engine breathe a little better. Anyone know about this?
Btw i think the 1st Gen. engine section is dead.....noones replying to anything i post anymore....heh....

Assuming you have no other modifications to your engine, don't do this. The only thing a larger throttle body will do, by itself, is decrease your performance. This is because a larger diameter TB will reduce intake air velocity and consequently reduce the volumetric efficiency (VE) of your engine. The OEM air intake system, including TB and intake manifold is designed to act as a unit to promote best cylinder-filling throughout the operating range of the engine. If the factory thought that a larger throttle body would give more power, all else being equal, it would have been included.
The only time a larger diameter TB would be necessary is if, after increasing the VE of the engine by such things as installing hotter cams, adding an exhaust header and modifying your ports for greater flow or going to FI, you found that the presure drop through the TB was excessive and therefore was the limiting factor in increasing your performance.

Thanks, I was about to get one this week if i could find one that actually bolted right on. In the future i do plan on fabricating a new pacesetter header for it. Although The more and more i learn about performance parts the more and more i realize what little i can do with my car.....wish i had a better car
Oh and btw ive got a short ram cold air setup on it right now...a new muffler......and not much else performance wise other then ngk plugs...So maybe if i get a new header....do you think adding a larger TB would increase or decrease my performance? (with the new header on)

how serious are you about modifying this car? How much are you prepared to spend RIGHT NOW? What is your long term plan/goal for this car??
Everyone who is new to auto-modding makes this same mistake.... you MUST have a plan laid out before buying any parts. You MUST know what the end product should be before starting any projects.
What I would suggest is possibly speaking with local speed shops about building you a small little custom turbo for your car. $3500 or so and you should be plenty fast enough (probably doubling stock power).
Sometimes when stuff isn't available for your car you have to make it yourself....thats how stuff gets done.

Sorry its been a while, but I AM serious about modding my car not only just to beat my friends and there "unbeatable" attitudes but I just want to have fun with my first car and see how fast I can really take it without spending senseless ammounts of money on a car that could have been replaced with a much faster one....WITh all the money i spent... Only problem with my car is everythings practically revolved around that stupid VAF. The minute i mod anything to let a little more air get in it just wont run. Ive heard of stand alone fuel management systems that arent to expensive so im going to start going that route first. Right now im posting on the other forum but just for an update in a few weeks im most likely dropping a bp-engine/g series-tranny out of a salvage 93 escort GT. Long story on that one but its not worth the time to get it on the road again. (all paperwork problems)
Ill be upgrading the axles and engine mounts on during this swap so when I get the whole new engine in, THEN ill start modding. Its going to be an easy swap.

/\ put an rx7 vaf on it once you get that motor in and try filling your motor mounts to make them solid(i'd do this while the engine is out of the car) also try removing the vics from the intake manifold try talking to my brother T4turbo or BP323 on clubprotege.com they have both done this on their cars pretty good results for pretty minor mods
