Auto to Manual How-to??
Awhile back I remember reading a post on an escort board (which one I don't know.. I don't even know the addy to any of them) about what parts are required to change an escort/protege from an automatic to manual. It was linked off a post on this board somewhere. After over an hour of searching here, I've given up. Anyone else remember reading this? Happen to have a link or even a copy of that thread? Thanks for any help guys.
BTW I even looked for a how-to here, but everyone always tells the person to sell there auto protege and buy a manual

it shouldn't be to hard. my neighbor converted his civic to a manuel for only $1500 CAN. all you need is: tranny, shift linkage, shifter mount assembly, clutch, clutch linkage(hydraulic or cable, depends on car), clutch pedal, brake pedal(automatic one too big), clutch master cylinder if clutch linkage is hydraulic. whewh!
also, you will need to remove your gear indicator lights, and check engine light because they will constantly be on. im not sure how to hook up the reverse lights but it can be done. finally, there is a sliding tab in a runner where the automatic shifter hooks up. this tells the tranny what gear to go to. make sure you leave this in tact, and put the tab into the park position, or else your car will not start. my neighbors mechanic did all this with him for not to much money. the biggest problem was the brake pedal, hydraulic clutch linkage(bunch of metal lines in engine bay) and installing the shifter and mount( had to drill out spot welding). definately worth it too. as long as you can find a good tranny for cheap, definatly go for it man.

The 323 that might have this done to it is already gonna have an engine and tranny swap, even if it wasn't an auto. The auto just adds a few more hours of work in the swap.
/edit: AND I have a -complete- 5sp 1.8DOHC parts car, that will have every single component needed to do the swap. It won't make the cost be that much more either.
