can ur 1st tranny handle this???
well I will be going to the drag races at the Sacramento raceway this weekend... I want to know if my tranny would be able to handle the redlining and burning out that im gonna do....i have a bp dohc 92 pro engine w/ a dx tranny 5speed. Pacesetter headers, magnecore wires r the only modification i have in it.
when i race i let go of the clucth at 3500-4000 rpm to launch it then shift at 7,000 rpm (i dont power shift). I just want to know if it will be fine for 4 races cuz the driving distance from my house to the race way is about 2 hours i still want to be able to go home. so what do u think? can it handle it????

burn outs, ahh, just watched my speedo go 70mph on a rain slicked road this evening, when in actuality, wasn't traveling anymore than 15 or 20 mph, very very nice damage to be doing to a transmission... an auto never the less

spinning tires on a launch is "fast"
burning out on street tires don't do anything but 1) wear them out 2) reduce the traction available immediately AFTER burning out due to the fact that the rubber particles become little marbles on the tarmac on street compound tires

your tranny should hold up fairly well barring the tranny is in good condition. the thing you should be worried about is snapping an axle like i did at famoso raceway in bakersfield , ca. i usually lauch at 3700 rpm with shifts at 6900. My best recorded et

whoa man.. you guys are launching at some pretty high RPMs.. If I drop my EGT at 3500+ I spin the tires pretty bad. Maybe it's just that I have some crappy tires on it right now. Any who.. What's the diff between a DX tranny and an LX ? Shouldnt be much different at all. I think your tranny can hold it. Good luck man.

There are only 2 exceptions I can think of: having a 900+ HP (or such) monster that can't get enough traction even with the stickiest compound, no matter how its launched - or if its a monster truck / off road situation, in which equal and opposite forces come into play from all that dirt being flung around - way back in the day, those offroad truck pull guys tried to keep from spinning but found it was faster to spin, as long as they were throwing dirt - good old physics. Of course, throwing itty bitty bits of rubber around gives a marginal, likely unmereasurable force benefit, and you have to consider that spinning tires != gripping tires != forward motion (before you say "But I can launch with both wheels spinning!" thats because the tires are getting little tiny bits of grip as they go flying by the road surface, over and over, but not the full amount of grip they could handle, because the traction requirement to stick them to the pavement at that speed difference is greater than their available traction).
So to reiterate in different wording for any non offroad and non pro drag 900HP crazies: Spin = wasted motion and time and power. If you're going for speed, better to spin the clutch to accelerate smoothly and put and keep power on the ground, than to spin the tires - which does neither. Sure clutches are expensive to replace - but if you get the right clutch for the job, and know how to use it, you can abuse it with drag launches for a good while before having to replace it. (Slipping the clutch is more valuable the narrower the powerband, in order to keep the engine where it wants to be - it's far easier to keep the clutch putting just barely less than too much power to the ground AND go fast, than it is to use the gas pedal - as you might find yourself falling waaay out of the powerband if you merely 'launched' at 700rpm (not a typo), vs the actual powerband)...

Next thing I know, you'll be (in the general, forum-wide sense, not necessarily you personally ... but you never know) saying that DOT lighting is good, and that N2O isn't brutal on engines, or running without an intercooler on a forced induction setup is a good idea, or...
