Question Dohc Price???

Hi guys, what's up!

I'm coming from the junk yark and I saw 3 1.8L DOHC mazda 16 valve engines.............!! in canada it's pretty RARE!!

well... there was also a 2.0L DOHC and 2.2L DOHC ... anyway, I asked the price for the 1.8L DOHC and the guy said 850$ CAN.

So, I don't know the milage but the engin look to be in pretty good shape so... also the guy was parting a '90 AWD protege what a bad feeling

Ok I will ask my question before I loose your attention lol
Is it a good price??? what is the price for this engin in the US ??

850$ CAN = 633$ US

Thanks oh yeah.... it's only the engin... like the hose have been cut, and there is an alternator.... bah!

Just ask the guy in the junkyard if you are paying ''cash'' if that would be cheaper....

Some of the junkyards here are dirt cheap if you pay ''cash''

most freakin junk yards ONLY take cash, at least the 20 i've been to in the past 6 months didn't take credit... cept one out in the boonies in kentucky, 20 miles from everything...heh, strange to say the least. if a car is in a junk yard, you have to figure it's in there for a certain reason... blown piston rings, cracked head, seized pistons, broken piston arms, blown head gasket... etc. etc. etc. so for what he's asking for, he'd better put a guarentee that it will run... and you know thats unreasonable... and in my opinion, so is his price. how many miles are we talking? ask him if the car was running when they recieved it in the yard.. some yards actually track that sort of information on file. i mean, i could swing a dohc engine minus alt, and maybe powersteering and master cylinder components, as well as radiator and hoses, for about $125 bucks and they'll pull the engine out of the car and set it on the ground for me. the other yard i go to will charge me $150 and i have to pull it out... so where is the trade off? at anyrate, they're junk cars, and you have no idea how many miles are on these engines as most gauge clusters on any cars are torn out the instant they get in the yard. keep hunting for more yards for a week, if you don't find something cheaper and you need the motor, go make sure it's either running or it's something minor you can fix yourself, buy it and rebuild it yourself to ensure quality and running condition of the motor, and you should be fine.
peace

any while we're on the subject, please descibe the mini-filter above the valve cover
it's a simple breather filter... you find it anywhere like here in canada... Canadian Tire.... in US I think the places like pep boys or something like that will have that thing....

i bought my bp for $350 US just the long block w/ intake manifold and thrittle body. No exhaust manifold, no flywheel, no distributor shaft, no alternator, no starter. It had 75,XXX miles on the clock (so the guy said), when i had the engine running the compression is still in spec on all four cyl. 2 of them tho are low but still in spec., leak on the cam seal, distributor shaft o ring, valve cover and now on the head. DAMN!
