DOHC swap info needed

Okay, I'm not sure if this has been posted, but here it goes:

I have an SOHC, at the moment, but I want to do the DOHC swap.

Can anyone tell me the difficulty with the swap, any hints, advice, or maybe some instructions?

And, where could I purchase the engine, tranny, and ecu for a reasonable price?

I've never done a swap on a first gen, but yes, I would still be happy to answer any of his questions to the best of my abilities.

more info...engine swap

obviously:

1.8 DOHC engine

header
distributor (or add one more cable to the one you have)

BP09 or BP10 ECU if it is 5spd (BP10 only if it is auto)

injectors

____

You have not not told if it is 5spd or auto. But if it is 5 speed you can use your tranny. The advantage is shorter gears, but the tranny is not so strong and the clutch is smaller. The GT, LX, MX-3, Tracer have longer gears and are much stronger overall including the axles.

My tranny is 5spd. I would like to have the stronger tranny, but the places I've seen the engine being sold at, they don't carry the tranny. And, the junkyards, here in dallas, don't seem like much help to me. I asked for some mx-3 seats and/or the engine from a 90-94 protege and the guy showed me a '97 mx-3 engine, and mx-6 seats!

Oh, "WTF" thanks for the info you've given me so far, though. I appreciate it.

What have you done so far about the tranny, any news?

When buying the engine, get all the engine mounts, at least the metal housing for the rubber mounts. Have the starter, alternator (the 323 can be used but just a little grinding in the bottom arm of the alt, easy task).

I recommend the BP09 because the diaghram is identical in terms of letter codes. The BP10 is the same board, but the code lettering is different, it is very confusing when lookin at the ECU diaghram. Unless looking them side by side. As long as you remember that the disty cable goes to the fourth from the right and the VICS is the fourth from the left.

The tranny you are using is good for the BP05 engine. THe car is going to feel heavy after the swap so be ready for new struts and springs and maybe new engine mounts. The rad, A/C, P/S will fit perfect with the BP05. If using A/C, you need the A/C mount from the 323.

Fuel rail

The fuel rail from the GT is different from the LX BP05; the LX has IN/OUT from underneath the TB while the GT has the IN from the TB and the OUT goes down underneath the VICS sensor, back to the firewall beneath the Intake plenum.

Stopping power:

brakes, your 323 front rotors will be pushing max with the new engine, they can be used, but LX spindles, rotors and calipers are on the TO DO list.

Sensors, sensors, sensors: when using GT parts like tranny, do take all the sensors with the male and female connectors to prevent any confussion and future headaches when in need of splicing.
