Engine Life

Assuming normal street driving, all scheduled maintenance, no major mods and a good engine from the get go...what is the expected life of the BP engine?

If I was gonna do the KL-ZE swap, how much could I expect to sell the BP for at about 80K miles?

I think BPs are definetly capable of doing upwards of 200k miles. You can't get much for a BP though.. I bought a whole car witha BP with 80k miles for 200 bucks. So 150-200 for the motor, assuming it's in excellent condition. If not.. 100 :/

Definitely agree...i'm over 213K now with recent hard runs on the dyno with NO problems. I don't even think my engine is *using* much oil - doesn't appear to smoke at all. Seems like various leaks are the major reason for having to add oil.

Well, dave's (cablemirc) pro had somewhere around 277,000 miles on it, and I'm pretty ******* sure that car wasn't taken care of by its previous owner! So it stands up to abuse too

just broke 174000 the other day. Engine is still running strong and has never given me any major problems. During the summer and fall I change the oil religiously (once every 3 weeks or so), but during the winter and early spring only routine mainetance. The only complaint about mine is the dirty engine compartment :-(

that will change when the BPT is in :-)

well, speaking from the standpoint of a driver who drives like he's auto-crossing in rush hour traffic, you can run these engines all day and not have problems. i have no experience to say so, but i'd like to think that with all the idiotic things i do when i drive (crazy, not dangerous ) in 25,000 miles, the engine hasn't fallen out . just passing 107,000 miles today as it is. you could feasibly get over 400,000 miles on our engines if maintenance is kept up, you don't have jack rabbit starts, you're not brake happy, you don't speed, you drive it more city than highway... etc. it's just a matter of how much you're willing to put into the car money wise. you figure, after 300,000 miles of owning a car, expecting you did oil changes yourself, used cheap oil or bought in bulk, and did it 3,000 on the dime, you'd spend $1000 on oil changes alone, let alone the amount of gas you consume, the brakes you wear out. i've seen people trash a car over a tranny, over multiple axle damage, head gaskets, worn piston rings, etc etc... but all can be fixed, it's just one of them big ticket items that can be the deciding factor in whether you think an engine is 'dead'. IMHO, when you can't go 3 weeks without going to a shop for your car, it's time to ditch the bitch. i'm **** about engine noises aside from normal running conditions, so i take my car to the shop more often then most drivers would ever consider. i dropped $500 in one week spread between 3 seperate occasions for 3 seperate things....so what is the exact definition of 'dead'?
peace

You mean more on the highway than the city... city driving is worse on the car than highway driving per mile. Stop go stop go stop go vs goooooooo
