Engine Swap: KL-ZE vs BPT

Engine Swap: KL-ZE vs BPT
I'm going to do an engine swap during the summer, but I don't know whichto do yet. Help me chose by comparing and contrasting the two options, then voting in the poll
- BPT Engie Swap. I'll buy all the parts needed (engine, ECU, Injectors, Pump, Tranny), and since it's a bolt-on, I'll do all the work I can myself, then have it professionally tuned when everything is installed.
- A-Spec KL-ZE Conversion. I'll either drive to or have the car shipped to A-Spec and pay them to do the KL-ZE conversion. They install all the parts including suspension.

tough decision
I didn't even know about the KL-ZE until rkives brought up the KL swap idea.
200hp out of a torq prone V6 sounds GOOOD!; AND it doesn't weigh any more.... my impression too is that it may be an even easier DIY 'swap' than the BPT.
180 hp out of an also torqy BPT isn't bad at all either AND there is more powa potential...
My hangup is the fact that these are JDM engines and thus are emmissions illegal in the states....otherwise IF i could get around this AND had the $$$ i would prob choose the BPT...

I would most certainly go for the BPT, as this is the top choice if you`re going to extract more power out of your engine. The potential in this engine is HUGE, and as long as our gearbox can handle the power, it`s not too costy either.

Well, according to the poll, I seem to be in the minority.
I want to do an engine swap. The more I think about it, the more I sway towards the v6. SUUUUUURE you won't be able to get as much HP out of it, but to me it seems less expensive overall, at least to me since I have a 323.
There is A LOT of parts I'd have to swap from a Pro LX for the swap to work. Not to mention, if you want to do it right, you'll want standalone engine management (which doesn't come cheap).
With the V6, the torque, and reliability of an N/A engine is almost too much to resist. Especially with the whole swap going around $2700US including labor. Not too shabby if you ask me! I still need to ask those guys about some stuff, but it seems like the way i'd like to go. At least THIS week, hehehe : )

i voted for the KL, just because it's more unique (BTW, the US spec KL is 170hp with CA emissions)
although the turbo peices sitting my garage may be put to use sooner than i thought....can ya just hear the gears spinning in my head....

Wouldn't fitting this motor ( KL ZE) be harder seeing it doesnt bolt in .. Would u need custom fabrication to get it in and u would need the ecu wired would the gauge cluster still work off the protege? ...jon

The KLZE is a bolt in, the only changes are parts like the tranny cossmember mount (which need to be swapped from a MX3 GS or MX6/626) among other parts, but the motor is a perfect fit in the Protege.
Now the guage cluster is a good question, but i would tend to think it would work fine, maybe a re-wire or 2, but i doubt it. As it's been done before in a Protege/323/Tracer LTS with no mention of this problem. The redline will change with the V6 though (IIRC)
