Familia motor
ok, so i have a 1990 Protege. I want to know what my options are for a serious motor swap. I know there is the Familia motor out there. How easy is this to do on my car?
Are there any other turbo options. i am a total idiot when it comes to Mazdas so pleae let me know what my options are and pardon my ignorance

GTX or GTR swap.
The GTR is harder to find. and popular opinion is that unless you're going for 400+WHP save your cash and get the GTX and then spend the extra cash to make the GTX motor more powerful.
For example, when you swap the GTX engine in, get the head from a Naturally Aspirated LX (GT model in Canada) and swap that. It flows better.
I've never done the swap, but from reading about it here, It seems to be fairlystraight forward.
Do a search for more info.

GTX makes 180hp at the crank and uses the VJ20 (???) turbo.
i am pretty sure those are correct. some post otherwise if its not.

The reason its hard to find GRT's is cause there were about 3000 made....
the GTX wll drop straight in, u will need the itake pipes/cooler, engine/ loom and ecu and ur exhaust will have to be modified to take the turbo...
i would say u will need a custom clutch too... look at a organic heavy duty clutch with a custom 1800lb presure plate....
