i believe he was trying to state that the axles were thicker, as they are. however, you both are correct. axles do NOT make a tranny stronger in any way. they reduce the risk of snapping axles and put ALL the stress on the tranny itself.

i dont think the kia tranny is still a g series. theyre similar in design but not the same. they look alike but there are alot of changes.
the splin for the axles are bigger, the casting of the case and bell housing are diff, the kia has a plug on the side that you take out when your filling it with fluid and when the fluid level is full it will come out of the plug, and the differential is bigger (not by much but it is). only thing the same are the gears inside, the bolt pattern to the engine, and the mounts.
i think kia just bought the design and did some tweeking to it.

So then would the KIA tranny be stronger? I just swapped to a DOHC and if I have to buy a tranny I might as well get the KIA tranny if it better.

ive been useing a kia tranny (1997) for about a year now, and its starting to stick in second at high rpm now, witch is common for the way i drive.
looking at the diff i would say its stronger than the mazda. but the only way to realy prove it, is to put one on a beast with a lot of tourqe.
if your thinking of going with a kia tranny, keep your old trany. you will need the spider gears, and spedo hookup.

This is aninteresting thread. I haven't been on the site for a while but this caught my eye.......
Anyway, I see everyone talking about how much the tranny can take. I have a 91 LX 5-spd. I currently have a junkyard trans in my car that I purchased for $250. This same tranny holds the power of a GTR motor boosting 18psi on a daily basis with no problems (and I don't baby the car all the time either). My remanufactured axels from Pep Boys are holding just fine and my STOCK LX CLUTCH. So as far as how much power the trans can hold, it's more of a question on how the car is maintained and treated. If you drive like an *** and/or don't take care of the car, it's gonna break down. If you take a look around, plenty of Protege owners are using a "G" series tranny on their cars with no problems so it can't be all that weak.

how much a tranny can hold will depend on how you drive........

the G series diff is significantly bigger than the F series one and there is a sleve bearing in place of a ball bearing

there are plenty of ways to strenghten the box...

check out my site http://tx3.has.it in the articles section for some sugestions and info
