Good buy? Help me gurus

I've just found a nice low-mileage j-spec BPT engine complete WITH awd tranny. The engine has everything minus a turbo including the wiring harness. Price is $1500 shipped to my door. This would be an awesome swap since I have several first gen pro's around me in the $500 range.

Gimme the rundown guru's what do you think? Is this a worthwhile purchase?

it has the typical junkyard warranty....60 day on the block and head.

Yes, I'd want to know compression first though....doesnt sound rediculously low though so should be a good engine...what are your intentions for it??

A lot of people will pull off the turbo kit and slap it in their 1st gen Pro/323/miata.
If you could find a clean 90-93 miata with a good motor, it would make a pretty fast & cheap little weekender.

I thoight about freshening up the motor and sticking it into a 2st gen chasis here that would be gutted and used either for autocross or dagging. Just thought the AWD stuff was neat to have included.

GTX or GTR??
An ECU would be nice, as would the turbo. but there are ways around that, like welding a new flange for a different turbo and a standalone.
Just for comparison, corksport sells the GTX engine for like 1100 bucks and the GTR for 1800. They don't, according to the website sell them with harness or ECU. The ECUs can, on occasion be hard to come by, but if you look hard enough you can find them.

The AWD tranny is mostly worthless in Northamerica unless you've got someone with an AWD firstgen that wants to do something with it.

yeah the tranny is worthless, from what i understand noone has tried to swap all the 4wd parts into a front wheel drive chassis, unless you can find a 4wd pro around, but they are real hard to find.
