GTR Motor Swap

GTR Motor Swap
Well, last weekend both Bruce and I installed my GTR motor into my 91 LX. We started on Staturday around 2:00 in the afternoon and didn't stop until 4:30 Sunday morning. After a few hours of sleep we got back to work around 11 AM Sunday morning. We ened up finally finishing around 9 PM that night. I still don't have the car on road yet due to me needing a upgraded fuel pump and I am waiting while Marcin (Turbo1g) finishes modifying my GTR harness to wire up in my car. I will post pictures soon or hopefully Bruce can post a few of the ones he took.

Shoot ,, I will post pics when I get home today, I was working on my 1.8 yesterday also .. lol ...
----------
Adam -- I will mail down that middle plug. I was wondering why you left it there ...
------------
As for the swap ... here are some details.
Droping the motor out of Adams car was simple. once all the plugs were disconnected and we had everything out the way , we just put the hooks on the engine , disconnected the engine mount screws and the lower crossmember and then lowered the engine out the bottom.. (which is the EASIEST WAY) .. I have proven this to everybody....
Then we seperated the tranny, took off the clutch and flywheel . because apparantly you need to use the LX clutch and flywheel because the one on the GTR is different... ok done...
Then it was time to get the engine out the Clip, BOY was that a BIA@H. The clip came on a pallet , which made it extremly hard to frigin manuever with the Lift. We had to pull the entire driverside hub and axle out , then pull all the mounts under the clip on the tranny,. The GTR comes with a front Metal crossbrass that goes from driver to passenger side(I guess to give lateral strength) pulling that was a BIA@H. Once we got all the tranny bolts out , which ment me sliding under a clip held up with a damn lift and Cynder Block(NOT CUTE), we used this HUGE pry bar that Adam had. I mean for gods sake it was like 8 feet long ... anyway we used it to pry the tranny loose and man did it work , We got the engine pulled out and then our process was continuing as planned.
On another note.
I have to say that Adams Parents were the best, They supplied us with food and drinks and every know and then came out and checked to see how things were going and even offered their suggestions. At times we needed every suggestion we could get .. Adams Mom and Dad are the greatest, man his mom set up her beutiful bathrom for me to shower my muddy self in. I was so greatful and felt so much at home and this warm fealing helped me to think clearly and work efficiently. Ohh and lets not forget Adam's dad , ohhh god does he have Jokes. hahaha he had me cracking up. I was holding my stomach the whole time .. man is he funny .. Adam make sure you listen to your parents. They are a blessing ... Adam's friend Paul was great also he passed through every know and then , but when he did he was more than happy to get dirty and give a helping hand. I really respected him for that , because Most people ( I won't name names ) wouldn't do such a thing ... Well I guess that's all I have to say . I just had to post that so yall would know what type of weekend it was ...

I'm already working on the car. No school today. I haven't stopped working on it since the swap. I'm almost done wit hthe intercooler pipes and then i can put my front end back together. I already wired up the new J-spec headlights and corners. Just waiting on the harness and my upgraded fuel pump.

Yup, it's all done. Right now it looks like a normal protege again just minus the front end. The harness should be back either tonight or tomorrow and the fuel pump is coming in on friday so I may be at e-town friday night to do some test pulls.

yo bruce? gotta question for u. rite now i have a messed up tp sensor and i heard i have to replace the whole throttle body w/ the untouched tps. anyways i went to the junk yard and noticed that the 1.8 L dx motor looks the same as the lx intake manifold and throttle body. Since there's no lx throttle body at the yard can i use the dx?

There is indeed a difference in the throttle body itself:
