Hi-Flow Cat

I have a 94 protege dx SOHC and i want to pull up some more power. i want to go with a high-flow cat but i don't know what is perfect for my engine. are there any that are made especially for my SOHC. or do i have to go universal-----?

You will most likely have to go custom.......... just make sure you get a cat that has the same size inlet and outlet diameter as your current exhaust setup...............

I see that you are running 2.5", I picked up a Dynomax Super Cat, 2.5" for my car, The body is much larger than the original so it hangs down a bit more, But it sure flows well.

Dynomax, Magnaflow, Summit, Random Technology all make hi-flow cats (along with many others) choose one that fits your budget and your pipe size.

I went with a random tech cat, had to replace under warranty once, but that went very smoothly. No problems with the replacement. It's been about 4 years now.

The dynomax is good one, I too will recomend this one. Or if you have a budget you can gut your current one.

ok, i've also been looking around for a hi-flow cat, and now i'm confused. i called around today, and asked about catco vs. carsound cat converters. most of the shops i called recommended carsound, but one shop said they have more problems with carsound than catco.

also, i have the stock 2" piping from the header back, but i have custom 2.25" piping from the cat to the muffler. one shop said it's better to get a 2" cat because it's better to go with the same size as the inlet pipe diameter. the other shops said it's up to me whether i want a 2" or 2.25" cat.

i'm going trying to figure which one to get!

Trust me the carsound is way better than the catco. That shop was just trying to get your money cause the catco costs less but they can see it for more.
Not sure about the diamiter though.

thanks for your input. yeah that shop wanted to charge me $40 more for the catco w/ installation than with the carsound w/ installation at another shop! they wanted to charge me $90 just for the catco cat, and you can get it brand new off of ebay for $30. plus all the other shops recommended the carsound cat.

is there a difference in exhaust noise with the new hi-flow cat?

I know on my six with 2.5" piping, no resonator, 2.5" carsound and a dynomax turbo muffler its pretty deep. My car almost sounds like a mustang.lol
Once i buy a new muffler it will still sound like a mustang but only with a shiny muffler.
Dont know how a 1.8 would sound. Mind you mine is a 2.0.
