does anyone have any idea how much it might be to get my throttle body bored out, i know www.gude.com will do it but i would rather just go to a machining shop.

I know that it's possible to do it yourself, but you have to know what you're doing ......

The BP TB is just fine to fairly large power. DONT screw with it. Its apparently sized nicely with the Intake manifold plenum.

so what your saying is that the bp throttle body is perfect the way it is. do you think i would even get a power gain from boring it out?

why am i wasting all my money adding performance parts to my sohc, when actually what i want to do is go dohc and build her up and go all out with that engine. what should i expect to pay for a dohc swap? finally some real power, and probally a way better looking engine bay especially when theres more out there for the dohc.

with the DOHC engine you can go really far...........power wise...
and they are not that expensive. check a local junk yard. they might have an Escort GT or Protege LX with low miles........you can grab the engine from there......

you said i could swap in the escort gt motor? whats the difference between the two motors? is the escorts motor a BP engine as well? so my dx transmission will not be needed, so take that out and do a full swap of the engine and tranny. man this is cool, i knew we could use parts off the escort gt, but i had no idea that we could also use the engine. can you give some info on what year is best and are the ecu's from the escort gt interchangable to my car? do they have the same power figure?

The difference in the motor is the valve cover. There are quite a few detail differences in the other systems (A/C, radiator, etc), but the engines/transmissions are interchangeable.

The DX tranny might work with the DOHC motor, at least until you start building HP. But the DX clutch is considerably smaller (200mm vs 215mm).

Don't forget to check out the 95-97 Kia Sephia when you are at the JY. It's also the Mazda BP DOHC the only difference being the valve cover. Even the tranny is mazda. It might be a lot cheaper than getting one from Ford or Mazda.

Kia 1st (94-97) gen US model trannies

Auto 1.8 - FA4A-EL
Manual 1.8 - G25M-R
Manual 1.6 - F25M-R

Kia used the B6 DOHC in the 1.6 model from 94-mid95. They started offering the 1.8 (BP DOHC) in mid 95. In 96 and 97 the 1.8 was the only engine used in the Sephia.

The 2nd gen (98+ Sephia/Spectra) used some other engine. (non-mazda as far as i know)

i was in that same boat a month ago.
i had a escort lx with sohc and wanted to put the dohc in, but after i added up all that i would need to do the swap it wasnt worth it. so i sold my escort for $500 and bought a protege with the engine and transmission i wanted for $500. it had a bad clutch but only cost me 250 bucks for a good one.

go to a used car search site and put in like only $800 for the max you want to pay, and it will come up with cars that have small problems.

Around how much do you guys think it will cost to do the kia DOHC swap with tranny and all? please give me an estimate on what you guys think it will cost for the full kia swap or the escortGt swap? And my car has a slowmatic "automatic" if that helps any more.

Well the best thing to do would be buy a BPt motor and GTX ecu . Braden is selling one for 1300 not shipped (shipping should be (225-250) its a great deal the motors have very low miles (34k-41k) and will hold plenty of power and will need no fuel upgrades. Just go to www.barelylegaltransplants.com or send me a pm thanx ...Jon

Because u wont have a motor with 90k u will have one with like 36k. U will also have more power. Depending on what u do with ur car a turbo is ideal and most people will have more fun with them beating mustangs..Jon

Doesn't the bp start to burn oil and the rings start to go after 100k?
