Irritating Exhaust Sputting Noise While Accelerating
hey,
every time i start off accelerating, my exhaust sputts out for a bit, holding the car back for a while, then it starts going. It's just getting to the point where i want to cut off the exhaust cause it's sooo irritating. I own a third hand 1990 protege, the exhaust was already in when i bought it.
I took my car to a muffler shop and they had my exhaust system checked. They said my catalytic converter might be all messed up since it hasn't been changed in over 140,000+ miles.
Can anyone give me advice? maybe do a whole cat-back system. with all new piping? (should i go with flowmaster or... ?) the current pipes are rusted all the way btw.
Thanks.

are you 100% sure that it's the exhaust system that's causing this.......
if the pipes are rusted you might as well change them.........do a search on the forum and you'll find a lot of helpfull info regarding cat-back systems and all the other details.......

read this on the dynomax website.
Restrictive Exhaust
A restrictive exhaust creates backpressure in the exhaust system that hurts your vehicle’s performance in two ways:
The engine has to work harder to force exhaust gases out of the cylinders.
Engines cannot scavenge burned exhaust gases out of the cylinder efficiently. This leaves exhaust gases in the cylinder to dilute incoming air/fuel mixtures and rob your engine of horsepower.
