J-Spec Pro BP engine info

well today i was looking at my engine at the shop that i'm putting in my mx-3 and i looked at the valve cover and it looked like a miata or a 1.6l dohc, but the block has bp stamps all over it and the heads are bp-05-7-2
also the intake mainfold looks different then some then i have seen before (no sticker)
what engine do i have?
is it from a pro just different cause its a j-spec?

Nope, that's just a 2nd-gen Protege engine. By the head, it's a '97 (although it could be an early '98) engine. BP-05 identifies the engine, while the distributor and front motor mount indicate its use in a second-gen car, and -07 is the year of production.

head was manufactured in 平成7年2月 (H7 = 1995) or 1994/2... the production date stampings could be based on the year AFTER the first such engine is made (in this case, 1989) plus X # of years.... OR Mazda chose to use the Japanese year (makes more sense)

well by what TheMAN said i take that it's a 95...definitely from a 2nd gen as Davard said.

AFAIK the only difference between the US market 2nd gen engine and the 94 LX engine is the intake manifold. from the pics you definitely have the 2nd gen manifold. they changed in 95 - the VICS manifold i have from the Sephia is the exact same one. the more i've looked at that manifold the more i think it produces more torque over the 1st gen's....the runners are longer on it - at least in the outside casting. all i need to do now is take my 1st gen's intake manifold off to look inside and compare the two.

what i don't know is if your *j-spec* 2nd gen BP is any different from a *us* 2nd gen BP.
