MAJOR coolant leak...help
Woke up this mornign, I knew i was leaking coolant, but not this much.
I can see where it is sorta and attached pics. I was thinking head gasket but can a head gasket leak that bad? and if not is it the water pump? I dont know much about the cooling systme, and I have my chiltons book out, just thought id get some answer from people who know and could offer ideas
coolant can be seen where I circled
if anyone has any ideas where its comming from let me know please, car has to be ready to drive from NY to texas in july ;(

my 1.8 bp is leaking from the water pump. I know its a different engine, but the water pump gasket could be gone on yours as well. run the car in your driveway and look under to see where its leaking from, or take out the spark plugs and blow compressed air into them. Water should start leaking out from the head gasket if you think its that. (you will need the appropriate attchment for this.

timing belt was changed maybe 15k ago, and there is now 110k on the motor. Im just undecided as wetehr its the water pump or headgasket, could the head leak that much coolant? IM in rochester NY so your a littel out of my way hehe...how much would a new water pump be, and hows the install? im hoping to swap to the BP 1.8 soon, so it all depends on how costly this is
thanks

well with that leak I would not drive to Texas.....
If you can do the swap yourself then it won't be costly , but you have to basically pull the timing belt down to get to the water pump , cause the tension pulleies are mounted on the water pump.
The water pump would not be that expensive, maybe like 60 to 80 bucks , If you have time you can get it for like 60 bucks from www.exxpressauto.com there prices are good and they are in nyc so u get your stuff pretty fast ...
But before you order anything. I would really check to see if that is the problem (waterpump)....
If that link I posted does not work , then go to yahoo and plug that name in...

check the freeze plugs carefully on the engine, but that is definetely the waterpump area in the pics. Make sure both hoses are tight and in good shape (squeeze them, if they feel mushy, replace em. If they give a good amount of resistence, there probably fine)
A few months backs i had the freeze plug right next to the Wpump on the front of the engine spuring a leak...just before a race in the pits....luckily i had just enough time to swap my tires onto another car, and of course good friends for letting me drive thier car too.
It wasn't too fun fixing it, i had to drop the Tbelt and Wpump anyway, when i got distracted, i tapped the Fplug into the damn block...BIG NO-NO!! anyway, i finally got it and also added some JB Weld to seal it up good.

yeah I gave the big tube going from the block to the radiator a push and it was mush, not as much resistance as the other side, so maybe that is it, just didnt see and y coolant around it, ill find out more tommorow, thanks again
