Put K&n on my GT and now bearly runs when cold??

Hey Guys,

So I ripped out all of the stock air piping and air box and installed a K&N cone with adapter plate, and now it bearly wants to idle when cold.

I adjusted the cable a bit so it runs, but now when it heats up it idles at ~1200.

I had to plug that hose that came out of the resonator box. I figure that has something to do with cold start? Can I get around this some how or do i need to install a small filter to that other hose? Any other ideas?

Thanks for your input!

that hose is the Idle bypass, it controlls your idle. that is why, your idle is fucked

Do you have any suggestions how to get around that??

Maybe a small filter on that hose?
I dont really want to cut into my nice new intake hose...

the air that draws HAS to be pulled through the VAF. you have to thave that hose there, attached to the intake, so it draws air through the VAF so that the air is properly measured.

easiest way to get around it is just reinstall your h-box/resinator and plug your idler bypass hose into that.. where it was in the first place. if space is tight with your new intake tube, either cut some length out of it or get an hks mushroom filter. it has been shown, and i don't need to prove it, losing the h-box/resinator will actually drop hp/peak torque ever so slightly.. ie, you're better off leaving the thing in there anyway. this IS the only way you're going to get around drilling a hole into your intake. however, i don't see the big deal... turn the pipe upside down and have a machinist drill the hole out.. ( i think it's something like 1 to 1 1/4 inches in diameter?). if done right and with care, you shouldn't **** anything up.
peace

Thanks guys,

I guess you guys are right, i will have to reinstall the res. box again. I dont think there is quite enough room there but i will figure something out....

Cheers,
J

then you will lose up to 5 ft-lb of torque, but it will solve the lack of room issue

why do you lose so much torque from the idle bypass?

not in the idle bypass it is the resinator box. the res box, uses sound to influence the flow in the intake pipe. the res box just houses the connection for the idle bypass

Hey guys,

I am still driving around with that hose blocked off.
Just want to make sure that that will not do any damage to the engine or anything like that ??

Thanks

Dude, you're in Ontario. Have you been to the Toronto Protege site yet? Have you joined the club? You should. GTs are rare, and there's a few of us on there. www.toprotege.com

crusing around with that hose blocked off = bad idea. it will mess your car up, and **** the idle control. be smart! that hose is put ther for a ******* reason. it wans't someone's whim saying hey lets put a randome hose here. it is there to allow the car to idle while the throttle body is closed.
