Radiator Question
what's up out there in protege world. Anyway, I also had a radiator leak on my radiator, on top where the plastic is for a while. I have been driving my other protege in the mean time while I fix it. And the car has been sitting outside so I move it, and drive it up and down the block to make sure the rotors dont start to rust. I always check the reserve and it's full and just add to the radiator. Anyway the other day I started the car and was going to take it for a stroll, and when I hit the gas the car would jerk back like it did not want to go any faster. This has happened the last two times I have driven it. Up until I drive the car for about 15 minutes,and very gradually give it gas then the prob. goes away. And no the car has never overheated even with a busted radiator. I always have a gallon of water for those few blocks I go. Although when I go the needle on the temp is 3/4 of the way up on Hot. Am I ruining my car by running it hot like that even though the radiator, and the reserve is always full? Also what about that jerking back the car does everytime I start the car, and drive... whats with the at the end????
did you put your gallon of water in your radiator when you car was hot? if you did you probally warped and f`ed your car pretty good

RADIATOR PROBLEM
CAUSE, I had a feeling I might have F!@#$%^&* my car up. I know on a few occasions, I opened the radiator cap while the car was hot, and poured some in. But I dont get why that would mess up the engine up. It wasn't like the water I poured in was Ice cold, it was warm water. And, also I would think the opposite would be true. If your'e car was running hot, and you did not add any water to it then that would warp your engine...

The theory is that adding cold water to an engine that has overheated and puked out all the coolant can shock cool it, causing it to warp and/or crack. This was a big concern with older engines. I think you'd have to have it just about empty and quickly dump water in to do any damage.
The only time I had a cooling failure (water pump not operating due to a missing belt....while racing at Buttonwillow), I only had a small water bottle and a (non-refridgerated) drinking fountain with which to refill it. Needless to say, I wasn't too worried about dumping cold water in too fast.
Don't know about your situation, though.

#2 - no idea. But one common problem with overheating is that the temperature sensors in the motor tend to fail There are three separate ones (one tells the fan to come on, one is for the gauge, one is for the computer so it knows the temp) on the back of the block. Also, there are things with coolant under the intake manifold that may have been damaged as well.
