SOHC free mods?

SOHC free mods?
Are there any free mods for the SOHC?
I removed my resonator and flipped that rubber tube downwards to mimic a CAI, but I know that most of the air comes from somewhere else... but this seemed like a free mod to me, even if its good for .5hp at the crank

Can I tilt my distributer slightly to give it a small timing advance?

Think bout free mods, umm, take off exhaust, make it straight pipe, take out interior to make the car lighter, as well as the seats, take off the pwr steering and ac. that can all amke ur car lighter and a bit quicker, dont know by how much thou. seen it done before at the race track.

ah, no money and need for improvement... tell ya what, go clean out your car, fully detail it with what you got at home and feel proud of your job, it's the only thing you can do. or, just take something apart and try not to break it. i do that all the time to my engine and interior just to see how everything was assembled, put it back together and take the pride in knowing **** about your car... thats the best 'free' mod you can do for YOURSELF! now i'm not telling you to rip apart your intake, cutting your throttle cable, taking off your valve cover or anything like that, i'm just saying, take little things apart and just have fun. your car is as good as it's gonna get stock without putting money or parts in the damn thing, simple as that!

Actually if I'm ever bored sometime in the summer I might do just that and get busy with a cheap dremel I have downstairs
I ported my brother's manifold while I was at A-spec one day (using their tools) and he says he felt a really nice gain on it

Yeah, you can play with the disty....~14 degrees is the limit on 87 octane IIRC. It won't idle rough

I have a KLZE with the most aggressive cams available for the car an underdrive pulley and timing advanced on the ECU... rough idle wouldn't bother me that much
besides I tend to run 89+ octane only, sometimes 91

Yeah so I was toying with my friend with an auto 2.2 cavalier on the highway tonight (straight empty stretches) and I walked him good! I pulled in 3rd for a bit then he stayed with me, then I'd pull hard once I hit 4th.
He ran a 17.6 (just for the hell of it) with his old engine and he had to replace the head a while ago and he says he thinks it feels a tad quicker since they fixed a couple of problems he had with it... so lets say he even just still runs 17.6, I pulled on him pretty good AND I know I would definately out-launch him out of the hole with my <2300lbs beast so I think I can run at least a 16.8-16.9 in my 100% stock DX (I'll just have the spare removed at the track)
