(solved)whats wrong with my tranny????

i just put a transmission in my pro , (out of a sephia) and when i let of the clutch i just get faint slipping/grinding noise.

i replaced all the seals, bearings, and put in new clutch (just oem) and pressure plate.
i even tried swaping out the slave cylinder from my other transmission.

Is the clutch disengaging at all?
Is the clutch engaged when the pedal is released?
Will it shift into or out of gear?

Kind of hard to diagnose from a distance with not much info to go on.

yea i replaced pilot bearing.
it will shift into all gears.
when i push the clutch in it sounds fine, but when i let of is when i hear the noise, and nothing happens.
could the pressure plate be stuck to the clutch?

could it have been slightly misaligned during installation?

I'm not sure, but maybe you put the clutch disc in with the wrong side facing out.

im pretty sure the clutch is facing the right way, but that could be it (only thing i wasnt sure of ). i put the side that stickes out, on the out side (away from engine) like the picture on the box.

as far as being misaligned during instalation.........i dont think the transmision would have mated with the engine if it was out of line.

also, i think i put a little to much trans fluid in. it couldnt have leaked in to the bell housing could it???

The pilot bearing is what sits in the center of the flywheel and the tip of the output shaft from the tranny goes in it. The thrust bearing, better known as a throwout bearing or release bearing, is what gets pushed onto the pressure plate by the throwout fork, also known as a clutch release lever.

thanks...yea i replaced both of those.

if the throwout bearing isnt pushing on the pressure plate enough, would i still be able to shift gears?

by the way thanks for all the help guys.
this suck. i double checked every thing during the instal, torqed every thing (three times), replaced every thing. i took my time and thought i did every-thing right. but knowing me its probably something simple thats wrong.

From what you said i would check the axles. The side gear on the pro and sephia tranny can fall if you do not put something at the place of the axles shaft during the removal and installation. An easy way to check it would be to put the car in first gear engine off and try to move the car if it move i would go look at the side gear. Have you had trouble putting the axles in, you should have had to punch them in has there's a lock on the tip of the axles shaft

yeah i tried putting in in first and pushing it. it rolled.
but i didnt think it would be the side-gears.

now the side gear is the gear directly inside the axle hole right.
they looked to be in place, but the axles did go in quit smoothly. i went to the ford dealer-ship to get a new circlip for the shaft, but they said it had been discontinued, so i used the old one.

ive never opend a transmision before. how hard would it be to put the side-gears back in place?

atila..............you where the closest

i knew the side gears where in place but it still moved in gear, with eng off. and the noise was with the speed of the axle spinning. so i want to orielys and had them look up the half shafts and cross-ref them with the protege half shafts, and it turns out the splean on the shafts are differnt. i took out the differential of the protege trans and im going to see if it will work in the kia trans. hell i might pull out the micrometer and see witch gears i want to put back in.

Damn, that's something i never though about, good one to know. I think the diff will fit if not then use the gear of the pro diff in the kia diff they should fit

You don't put Transmission fluid in a MTX car, you put GEAR OIL ....
You better hurry up and change that
