RX-7 Brakes on 1st Gen
#17
Hi there. FYI I own a 1990 Ford Laser TX3, with a 180PS BPT. Last weekend I attended a track day at Sepang with a Honda club. My boss lent me his 2001/02 Civic RX. After just 1.5 laps, there was catastrophic brake fade!
Aaargh! Imagine if this happened on the street! Anyway perhaps the fluid was too 'wet' with moisture accumulated over months. The fading could have been a combination of pad fade and fluid fade. In any case, I entered a corner too fast, spun and went into the gravel. Made the mistake of keeping my foot on the brakes, so it nosedived into the gravel. I had to dig my way to the tow hook. I even forgot which side it was on! (Now I know why track cars have big TOW HOOK stickers! It's not for posing!). Anyway starting a car in gravel is $@#@% cos the ancillary belts rub against the gravel and if you're unlucky they will snap.
The moral of this story is: YOU CAN NEVER HAVE TOO MUCH BRAKING!! Right now my dilemma is how to safely, reliably upgrade my brakes. Can those FD brakes fit? Has anyone tried it?
WongKN the Honda club prez had mild racing pads, braided lines, powerslot rotors and some high temp sports brake fluid. Seems OK, but I'd like more 'insurance', if possible.
Any comments would be appreciated.
Regards,
Nick
