Technafit SS Line install?
I was wondering if anyone has installed the Stainless brake lines from the group buy that just happened? I tried to install the new lines, but found that where the lines go in to the body, the hole is too small, or rather the lines are slightly too large. Without filing the opening to accept the larger piece, I can't get them installed.
Has anyone else had this problem? I wonder if I was mis-shipped?
I looked on the Techna-fit site, but found that they only make lines for the late model proteges.

I haven't installed mine yet, so i really don't know. I have been thinking about it on and off and thought sure the connection is on the inside of the fender to start, no hole to go through....but i never thought of it when i was near the car to look at it....then i fished through some pics....

The top arrow shows the "L" shaped pieces of metal that the the line has to feed through. The fitting on my stainless line will not fit through the hole to allow it to be clipped in properly.

Ok, well, I bought the $89 CORK SPORT SS Brake Line Kit at this link
I've got a '95 Ford Escort LX Wagon, but the protege's should be really really really close, or the same. my part number was esc-3-116, but they also carry part number prt-3-116 which is for 1st gen protege/323. at this link.
That bracket on the upper arrow in the pics above should be a spring C-clip that you pound off with a hammer and screwdriver (or other form of mechanical persuasion) ... the metal fitting on the line actually recesses into the bracket from the bottom (note the 5-sided 'bolt' looking part? it's actually rounded between 2 sides, allowing for only 1 way to fit it in there.) and the spring clip catches a groove in the metal, and holds it just fine.
**update** well, I did find one area that had to be dremelled. The L-shaped bracket is 2 layers of metal, and they weren't exactly centered. I barely had to shave any off, but i just used a chainsaw sharpener bit in my dremel and took off some of the burrs that were built-in. but, it all seems to work ok so far. I'm betting they were made to fit "brand new" brackets, not our used ones that have accumulated a bit of rust and/or expanded and shrunk from climate changes over the years..
Here are some pics of my install so far (i just did the one, and came in to tell y'all about it). I left the existing brake lines alone for now, as I wanted to verify that the new ones fit the brackets, so don't get confused by the 2 different brakelines in the photos. I installed my front lines tonight because I just wanted to see if they'd fit. I still have yet to put on my Brembo's, etc. Anyway, they fit fine - no problems! I can already tell a difference too in how well they work ... can't wait to get the rest of my stuff installed!
