OK I have been in contact with Wilwood brakes company and I have found some possible upgrades for the Protege.
I am looking for some input from you guys. I am not looking for a debate on the "effectiveness" or "neccessity" of big brakes, but rather some input on pricing.
The kit will fit the 1st gen Pro's,(I am unsure of the other generations) and will feature 4-piston calipers, 12 inch rotors, and secondary mechanical E-brake calipers, and needed mounting hardware. Other options would be stainless steel lines, new master cylinders, etc...
The system could also be available in "stages".
i.e. Stage 1 just calipers, relocation hardware, and S.S. lines with sillicone fluid
Stage 2 - stage 1 plus front rotors, and larger valved rear calipers
Stage 3 - full big brake kit - max available stopping power!
The final stage should be priced around $1900 USD with the other stages varying in price depending on what you get. Trying to find out how much interest there is in this, and if it will be worth pursuing for the future!

Hey look ,,, just try and help out ,,, but at the same time you should try and push for them to make them for other gens to ,, like the 2nd , 3rd and so on ,, the 1st gen is not the only protege made ,.

I only wrote that they fit the 1st gen, because I am unsure of the differences between the generations. I am not that familar with the other models of Protege so I can not say for sure.
I am asking these questions now! BEFORE diving in head first as you put it. I can't produce things that you would want, if I don't know what that is! I personally want better and bigger brakes for several reasons. I want the better more consistent feel in the brake pedal, and the fade resistance and improved braking that it can provide. I also plan on doing some track days, so I will need the extra durabilty and heat disappating capability that they will provide. Lastly I want the look of the big brakes, my stock rotors almost cannot be seen behind my 17 inch rims.
I build performance parts for Mazda and Ford based cars, and I do plan on having my car in the magazines, so I want all the best upgrades that will really grab their attention and show them(and you guys too) I am serious about performance.
So I am asking YOU the enthusiast public, what you want and how much it is worth to you. Also please remember, that these are serious parts that were built to race specs, to withstand abuse...

I was doing a search and came across this page PPC Racing.
Seeing that the four corner is ~$2300. This willwood kit would save a few dollars. I'm just curious as to what size of wheel I would be able to use with the willwood. I'm interested in 15"s. I don't see the point of doing autox'in in anything above that. Then again, that's just me, and that's my opinion.
I like the fact that this willwood kit would come with seperate mechanical e-brake calipers.
Though, it looks like I would be the only other person interested in this kit other than you, Gary.
Let me know any info if you make progress with this kit.

That PPC racing Kit looks good but at over 4grand CAN, that's INSASNE!
If you can work something out for a complete bolt on set of disks at all four corners for cheaper than these guys, I'm in.
I'm going to be overhauling my brakes this summer anyway and this could be just right.

Now it won't cost me an arm and a leg to keep up with the cool Hondas; just a leg!!

But seriously, Willwood's a good brand and something like this would be greatly appreciated for my little hatch for all the reasons stated. Keep up the good work out there at CMS. We need more people like this pushing Mazda(and Ford I guess) performance to show all the Honda guys who don't know, exactly what the're up against.

And in my opinion, anybody who's looking for more justification for something like huge brakes just has to ask themselves one question: Does a 2500 pound Honda Civic realy need 14in rotors and six pot calipers more than we do? I don't think so, but they sure are nice to have.
Just a thought.

Bottom line, if you save us money go for it!!
