none of the pads are actually attached to their metal plates, the pads are all cracked and falling aprrt if not already missing huge chunks out of them, one pad actually have 1/2 the pad missing.
that was some messed up crap, how the hell can pads just crumbe like that,
i guess this is why my ebrake light keeps coming on when i step on it.

i don't know, maybe it could be me...just maybe, but i think you may have been 5,000 miles over due for a pad change. just as a saftey feature, i'm telling you, they should equip cars with holes in the floor so you can fred flintstone it to work and back... and for added safety measure if you can't get your car to stop sucessfully. dude, i just ran out a set of pads in 4 months because i had sticking calipers... the damn things would GRIND to a halt, always squeeled, never got the brake light going on though... and my pads didn't look NEARLY that bad. good find in changing them

the thing is the pads were not warn out, its just that they fell apart, literally
they were still pretty thick and they still stoped, although the last few days i noticed a bit crappier braking but they still stopped.

what would cause those holes, by the way? ?? ?

those were rivets that held the pad to the metal part
the funny thing is, when you look at the picture again, you can see that the part thats attacked to the rivets stayed on, but the pad broke off that.

Uhh, rivets that hold the pad to the plate? I don't think so...
Here are mine:
I don't see any rivets!

im pretty sure differenet manufacturers make brakes differently, and those were probably really cheap pads
