Did the protege ever share transmissions w/ the escort?
I know a few friends w/ zx2s and they all seem to have transmission trouble. I was wondering if any of the five speed proteges ever shared transmissions with older escorts or the newer zx2s.

yes the 91-96 ford ESCORT GT is a mazda in ford clothing. the tranny, engine and ECU are all mazda parts and i will go on to state the obvious, the same mazda part in a ford, will fit in the Mazda.

they'll hold together fine as long as you don't make any significant amount of power (sub-300hp)

if you are talking about SHO tranny's shouldn't this be relocated in the 3rd gen section.
also the only tranny that bolts to a first gen is the "G" and "F" series trannys out of protege's or ford escort GT's with the 1.8L engine.

Yeah, the probe is a funny story. It was originaly going to be the 82-up mustang body but ford had a hard time fitting even a small V8 under it's hood so they went with a mazda designed vehicle and made it FWD instead....not only was this cheaper and sold more units....the 2.2L turbo versions were every bit as fast as their mustang counter-parts. I know....I got beat at many a stop light by one!
