ECU or Sensor problem????
I need some help here. About 4 or 5 weeks ago I had my Ignition Distributor replaced and got toatly hosed by the mechanic. Since then every once in a while I'll be driving along, my car looses all power and my engine light comes on. When i pull over the car idles ok but as soon as I give it gas it stalls. All I have to do to fix is it completely shut the car off let it sit for like 15 seconds and start it back up, its fine. Its gotten to the point that when I am cruisin' along I just push in the clutch coast for a little bit, start her back up and go on my way. Cash levels are low so I don't want to take it to a mechanic if I don't have too. Any ideas? Oh yeah, I do have a small exhaust leak in my flex pipe but thats been there for a while.

ok..... from my experience, your coolant temperature sensor might be dead or WILL die.... that's what happened to me....
I didn't know until the mechanic found it.... try jumping the diagnostic connector with pin TEN and GND then put your key at ON then watch the code from the check engine light... if it's 9 then replace that sensor and everything should be fine!

SCiMMiA24, thanks for the info I will try it. Where is the coolant temperature sensore located? I am relativly new to doing my own work on my car and will probably replace it whether it is broken or not.

it is located just behind the distributor I'll post a pic if i can scan it, and also I don't really know how to replace it since I didn't do it myself (I didn't know that was the problem...)
But as I see from the haynes manual it looks like to be simple, just unscrew the old sensor and screw the new one in.... just be carefull to handle it with care...

I HATE MECHANICS
Well, i finaly got around to try and fix the ECT Sensor. I was going to pull it out and bring it to the part store to make sure i got the right piece. In the process of removing it i noticed the the wires and clip at the top of it seemed very loose. I pushed down on them and they clicked into place. Start the car up and its fine. Turns out that the dumb *** of a mechanic who fixed my Ignition Distributor never re-atached the cable properly or nocked it loos. Thanks for the help and the pic SCiMMiA24.
