Mazda Protege 1994 Vibrations Need Help Please.

Hello Everyone

I own a mazda protege 1994 Auto 4 Cyl, 77000 miles on it. Whenever the
car is above 2000 RPM (in lower gears) I can feel a distinct vibration
at the bottom, its almost like something is hitting the car from the
bottom its very prominent on drivers side. As the gears shift and move
higher it gets smoother. I am not able to speed up due to this. Please
provide me guidance and advice.

Regards and Thanks for the help.

wow....could be any number of things. Part of it sounds like a rattling exhaust to me...then another part sounds like damaged cv axles..then another part sounds like a possible transmission failure.

Maybe one of our members is in your area and can take a look at it for you.

Mazda Protege 1994 Vibrations ,

Thanks for the advice. It seems like either axle or transmission. I live in Henrico county in Virginia. I will really appreciate if somone can take a look. Else I will take it to a shop.

Thanks again

As one with a custom exhaust that's hitting the bottom of the car, that could be it but you said the car won't accelerate...I take it it's an auto? Could be a clutch plate or something that has broken in the trans. If there is a problem usually the O/D light comes on and flashes, does this happen?

Thanks for the answer. Yes it is an automatic. No the OD light does not come on. Sorry I was out of town for a while so could not reply. The vibrations and sound continues as soon as I push the gas pedal. Once i cross 40 miles speed things are much smoother. Let me know your thoughts.

Maybe a differential or something...sorry I'm no Mazda Master Tech...my dad is though.

Have a professional diagnose it...it'll be cheaper to get a trans from the junkyard than getting it fixed at a dealership, if you need one.
