oPTIONAL 14" WHEELS

HEY....i was checking on getting rims and tires for my pro....and when i while we were talking price....he said something about me having the 14" wheels and tires instead of the 13"

i guess it was an option with all first gen pros...

has anyone else heard of this?

Yes, my '90 lx has 14" wheels. I thought that 14"s would be standard on the LX?

1st-Gen Proteges came with 185/60HR14 tires on 14 x 5.5 wheels on LX models, and 175/70SR13 tires on 13 x 5 wheels on SE/DX models.

The 1990-1991 4WD model had 185/65R14's (i think) on steel wheels

the 1990-1994 SE/DX has 13"x5" steel wheels with 175/70R13 tires like david says. BUT in 1990 full wheel covers were part of a package (i think), the normal wheels had lug-nut centercaps like on the SE 323 of that year.
Yeah, forgot to mention the AWD, but the tire size is correct.

BUT, no U.S. Protege has ever come with 14 x 6" wheels. Made finding wheels for stock class autocrossing very difficult (although, now you can get the 11lb '90-'93 Miata wheels for very cheap). The Miata did go with 14 x 6" alloy wheels (the steel wheels were still 5.5") in 1994 and subsequent models, and there were a few special editions, like the '92 black Miata, that came with 14 x 6" wheels.

Also, very few 13" rims will fit over the brakes on the LX. And most of those are race wheels.
