Problem with 9004 high intensity bulbs

hey i drive a 94 protege lx and i replaced the oem headlights for some ultra white headlights i bought from ebay for like 10 bucks.

the problem is whenever i turn the headlights on, the car thinks it's in high beam.
when i put the old ones back on the problem goes away. anyone have a problem like this?

i'd appreciate any help you guys could give. thx

so i'm guessing by pushing the turn signal stalk does nothing, yet the high beam indicator on your cluster remains lit while the headlights are on? i have no idea what could be the problem, cause if your oem headlights work regardless and the high beam indicator stays on ONLY when you have the ultralight bulbs from ebay in, i'd say you got what you paid for... cheap bulbs. see if you can get some apc ultra whites from pepboys... or better yet, sylvania silverstars and see what the return policy of the seller you bought your bulbs from is. you have to try and reason with them, see if they can replace your bulbs with a better suiting pair, eitherwise, i'd say you're SOL. sorry

yeah i don't mean to sound like a jerk but there's noway i'd pay 10 bucks on ebay for those type of headlights so you basically get what you pay for i payed $45 or so for mine from pep boys and they work great i've had no probs at all with em

i highly doubt somebody would go through the trouble to make a bulb with a 9004 plug and make it a single filament bulb, there is no purpose to do so, the oem spec sylvania replacements aren't more than 8 bucks a shot at peppy's... come to think of it, 10 bucks is cheaper than what i'd pay for at my local import shop. thats strange. however, i will denote something of interest, yet showing no fact, when i used APC titanium bulbs in the rear of my car, one bulb would constantly stay lit with both filaments blaring in that one bulb... say on the left side. then the bulb on the right side would blink when i pressed the brake on (in other words blinked when and how it should have). i don't know, might have something to do with wattage?? anywho, take the damn things out before you blind somebody with your highbeams.... if they are infact on highbeam... and just get a pair of sylvania silverstars or some sylvania cool blues... forget what i said about apc's, their durability is dick. sad to really say it, but see the group buy section on the E-Spec headlight swap.. thats more or less your best bet.

Just get regular bulbs, they are better....

and for your rear bulb that was lit up bright, make sure you didn't put it in upside down...

I'd personally recommend the Sylvania Cool Blues... they aren't blue at all actually, and the low beams (let alone the highs) are much improved on dark country roads at night. I liked mine so much that my buddy got some for his integra and my mom for her Jetta. Again, no complaints!

i had a problem with the knockoff HID/Xenon bulbs from walmart and target. they are 45/55 watt bulbs, and id always use them as high beams, low beams wernt as bright. but depending on the wattage of those....i still cant see how u only got high beams. did you look at the connectors on the bulbs and made sure they were ok, and INtact. the prongs could also be too short to hit the harness on the car.

hope u get bulbs that work my .02
