Question Prto-Clone?

I have noted a number of owners here also own Ford Escorts.
Are they a Protoge-clone?
I know the MX-6 and probe are (Chilton says so...).

The '90-'94 Protege LX shares the BP engine with the Escort GTs, I forget the years avaliable ('92-'96???). They also share suspension components.

The 1st gen Protege and 2nd gen Escort (91-96) share the same chassis, just a different skin. Some modifications were made to the chassis to provide a hatch and wagon for Ford while the sedan is nearly identical to the protege. The 'essence', per se, of the first gen Pro still exists in the ZX2 chassis (all 3rd gen Escorts for that matter). A few modifications were made through the years, but low and behold, it's still basically a 1st generation Protege chassis.

As funkdaddysmack noted, the E-GT and P-LX shared the same 1.8L DOHC engine and all suspension items are directly interchangable.

Yeah I noticed a remarkable resembalance between my wifes 97 Escort and my 93 Pro when I bought it. That's how I knew my sound system would fit in the trunk. Thankfully I don't have to buy another one of those stupid oval stereo adapters to put in an aftermarket head unit.
