Remote locks

Sorry if this has been covered before, but I did a search and didn't find anything applicaple (yes my spelling sux). I don't like the locks on my 92 LX and would like to look into Remote Locks. Has anyone done this to thier 1st gen Pro yet? If you have, were you able to do it yourself, or did you have it installed?
Thanx

I believe if you talk to Mazdaspeedwest, aka mazdaracer on clubprotege.com, he installs stuff like this in his job. you will need to have power locks already installed in your car.

I am waiting on my remote stater kit, which also has remote locks.

I got keyless entry (remote locks) installed with my alarm. Shop charged me $200 for everything and I got free installation. I would have done it myself but the only wiring I'll touch is stereo or wiring for neons.

honestly, for what it's worth, be careful what brands you're looking into for purchase.. you're guarenteed to get what you pay for.. in other words, ebay 'brand' car alarms and remote entry kits aren't going to last long/cause electrical components to fail pre-emptively. this is pretty much the gist of what daryl has told me in the past. his alarm wiring information can be found here on his website at http://www.mazdaracer.com .. more specifically, http://www.mazdaracer.com/pro/alarm_tech_G1.htm

my understanding was you'll need the kit itself, as well as an actuator/regulator of some sort that will control the locking and unlocking of your doors via remote. i was quoted the extra parts needed for a central locking system like seen in the first gen protege, was around $40 bucks. honestly, i'd put a remote entry kit around $200 installed, 250 with alarm, and 300 on upwords for the works (remote start, keyless entry, alarm.. possibly extra sensors and paging feature?). personally, my car had an aftermarket alarm installed by some guy who loved electrical tape, took me 3 months of futzing around to correct all the wiring problems the car had because of this.. it's definately something you don't want to butcher.. and if you can't wire a head unit and change your oil, i'd recommend just coughing up the dough to have the **** professionally installed. for somebody like daryl, he's an electronics nut.. he thrives on this ****.. depending on where you stand, you may or may not want to undertake this.
peace
