Serious KLZE questions
I'm currently in need of an engine swap for my 1992 mazda protege SE... I am in a position where i may be able to pick up a mazda KLZE 2.5 litre V6....for $1100 US... so it seems like I may have a good opertunity to do a little upgrade...
Now.....here is a description of the engine..
This auction is for a JDM low milage Mazda KLZE 2.5 V6 engine. Perfect swap for Mazda Mx6 and Mx3's. Milage avg's 35-45 000 miles on all the engines we bring in from Japan including this engine up for grabs here.
Engine:
The engines include the following:
- Complete long block
- Alternator
- Injectors
- Intake manifold
- Exhaust manifold
- Throttle body
- Sensors
- Wiring harness(cut at firewall)
- Belts/wires and more..
Warranty
All our engines come with a 30 day warranty from the date of purchase! Warranty covers all internal parts of the engine. No sensors or other engine related parts.
In case of defective engine, the defective parts will be replaced and or changed. No refunds avaliable.
Engine info
All our engines and transmissions are hand picked personally by our source in Japan. All engines are tested,
and donor cars are driven on site to ensure proper working order of all components.
.....so....that is the engine....and i have a few questions about the swap.
1. Is there anything besides what is listed there that i need to do the swap (i think i need an ECU as well) ?
2. How much work is required to install this engine on top of a basic engine install?
3. What trannys will work with this installation, or can i use a standard first gen tranny (either the dohc or sohc tranny)?
these are just some questions to get me started... if anyone has some advise or any input on my idea ....let me know...
any info is appreciated....thanx

ok...
1. All the install info has been a direct 1.8 V6 MX-3 swap to the KL-ZE... what kind of differences are there between the 1.8 BP swap?
2. As I understand, the stock MX-3 tranny for the v6 will work for the KLZE... does this mean that i will need a MX-3 tranny and clutch? Would the tranny bolt into the protege or are there modifications needed?
3. I believe they mentioned using the stock computer from the mx-3....does this work? Can this work with the Protege ECU? Do i have to reprogram anything?

As well.... I am wondering if it wis worth all the trouble....or would it be easier to just get a BPT ... a BPT and tranny should bolt in no problem right....i can even use my stock ecu....
Maybe this would be easier... i don't know
the bpt i'm looking at too is a JDM Mazda 323 1.8L BP Turbo 185hp Complete Engine w/ 5-Speed AWD Transmission...will the AWD tranny work for me or no..?
would i have to upgrade tranny?
I am looking to do a swap in about 2-3 weeks....so i kinda have to know what i'm doing and have the engine in the shop by three weeks at the latest...
has anyone really compared the cost of swaping a BPT vs KLZE?

It's been said the BPT has a lot more potential than the KL-ZE. The AWD will not work for you, and it's pretty weak.
The transmission you want would be the G-series out of a Protege GT (kind of hard to find), US Spec LX, or Escort GT.
You CAN run on the stock ECU, but not with too much boost on it. I'd recommend moving up to the BPT ECU, or, better yet, a full standalone system, like a haltech.
A shop up in Toronto, I believe, does a lot of this kind of work.
A-spec
Their website is http://www.a-spec.ca , but it doesn't seem to be working for me right now.
I'd also recommend asking questions at www.clubprotege.com , they have a lot of knowledgable people over there.
IMO, the BPT swap is the right way to go. A custom turbo set-up might be even better, as the BPT turbo is kinda small, and the head is restrictive, compared to the regular BP protege head.

I'll check out that site..
Yeah ...i've heard that the BPT has great potential....the only problem is that i am low on funds....so i kinda have to watch what i do right now..
I'm thinking maybe look at the BPT and use my stock ecu for now.... i can always upgrade it later....and just find a tranny from a GT or Escort .... could i use the same clutch from the AWD tranny?
I know about Aspec.....the only prob is....$4600 full engine and install of KLZE...i dont' have it...
I had a lead on a KLZE for $1600 in T.O. but i think by the time it's in....i will have spent over $3000
i can't spend $3000 right now...
and a stock engine is gonna cost around $300 - 400 dollars anyways....so spend a few more bucks ($455 for the BPT ) and then say $350 for the tranny and around $400 on the install and few parts (cap, rotor, plugs, wires, filters, fluids,etc...) and i'm looking around say $1500 for a BPT...a lot better than over $3000 for near same results....
Anyways...i'll check out that site
thanx
