steps on gas nothing happens

i drive and everything seems normal then i'll stop at a light when the light turns green i step on the gas and no power it takes like 30 seconds to get up to 3000 rpms from idle then whe i get it finally going and time to shift i have a manual transmiison i shift and the car jerks and no power like the car is not getting gas i've changed the fuel filter and i have an air intake and my intake filter looks fine.
someone suggested check my throttlebody i have an rx- airflow meter i'm wandering could it be that any suggestions this started happening like once a month now this is the second time this week.

well, there are a couple things to check: make sure your intake is solid and can idle fine in neutral, check for air leaks, and follow daryl's tuning method (as i'd hope you already have the tools to tune the RX-7 VAF) http://www.mazdaracer.com/pro/VAF.htm
just make sure everything is in spec. if these fail, have a shop run the computer for codes and see if the VAF is faulty or not... either than that, could be a fuel delivery problem. i've had three incidents where i've had a bad idle where i had to two foot the brake and gas pedal at a stop light (i have an automatic)... once was the VAF, the other was the fuel pump, the other was a leaking air intake hose. this is my experience.. but good luck.
peace
edit:when it took a while for the rpms to get up to 3,000 rpms or so, it was my VAF that had failed

Yeah, intake hose, VAF tuning, or spark plug wires (either wires or valve cover gasket leaking oil down the plug holes.
