Sway bar bushings

The mechanic mounting my new winter tires (Michelin Arctin Alpin - love them) told me that my car needs new outer CV boots and new sway bar bushings. CV boots I understand but I have never heard of sway bar bushings wearing out before.
He wants $110 to replace the sway bar bushings.
Two questions:
1. Has anyone else heard of replacing these bushings?

2. If the job is mostly labor I was thinking about puttting on a Compass Motorsports sway bar for $175 while I am at it. The labor should be the same for the new bar as for replacing bushings on the old one. Thoughts?

Thank you for your help.

Thanks for your help. By now I have owned so many cars for so long that I thought I had already run across any relacement item that would ever need to be done. I suspected that worn bushings on the sway bar are no big deal, but wasn't sure.
