Sweden calling
Hi folks,
I just picked up a '90 323 1.6i 8V 4 door 5-speed for a few bucks and searched around Google for any forums and came across this one. Seems like a rather popular, updated and helpful friendly place
While looking for parts for my 323 I discovered I seem to have found one of these rare models just manufactured for a year. It seems some changes were introduced in 91 so I'm not sure how much they changed or if I can use parts from any 90-94 model...
Since I have such an odd model I am not sure where to ask for help either Maybe a few friendly people here can direct me to the right forum to solve a few quirks I've discovered.
Thanks for setting up this great forum!

Thanks guys
I'll take some pictures and post some more details tomorrow.
Oh, while at it... I guess I can reveal stuff that I know a bit about and where I think I can contribute to help others here as well...
I know quite a bit about electronics and I am not afraid to take on a complete rewire of a car. Finding electric gremlins isn't a big headache for me. And I know how to handle a toolbox. At least I'm rather good at disassembling things. Assembly can be a whole another story
I think if I had a car lift I'd probably do all my vehicle repairs by myself. Except for welding and body stuff. I really have no clue there!
Oh and if you guys for some reason or another would need parts from Europe, just let me know and I'll try and help out. Most parts are probably not as inexpensive as in the US for these Japanese cars though.
My vehcile needs a little bit of rust work. The place I bought it would fix the wheel arch rust problems after new years for me for free. The interior looks rather good though.
It's got a few miles on the clock (163.000 to be exact - or 261.000 km). Probably needs a new cambelt. The service book has been filled out up to around 100.000 miles and that's the last note of the belt being changed. Is it easy to inspect the belt?
Also the CV joints seem to be a bit tired and probably needs replacing. Any quick fixes to make the last a few months more until I can replace them? Is it hard to replace them?
The only other thing I've noticed that I can recall is that it sometimes will drop down to just above 500rpm when idling. Usually a few tickles on the gas will make it idle around 750-800rpm again. There's also a slight vibration while idling. Maybe a new set of rotor, dist.cap and plugs would be an idea? I'll see if I can inspect the motor mounts tomorrow.

....A Swede! I don't want to be a threadjacker, but I really want to know what a Swede thinks about the fake Saabs now finding their way into the USA.... from Japan. Please visit the thread below to respond.

Ok, I am NOT jacking this thread. I promise. Back to the 323. Regarding the rust on your 323... do they salt the roads in Sweden too?

I don't mind...
Actually I have to reveal I am actually a Norwegian that have ended up in Sweden. So I am not so passionate about Swedish cars I admit Volvo has made an effort to look better. And Saab's always looked nice, but were to "excentric" sort of. I'm more a German die hard fan... who ended up in a Japenese car? Help *laughs* Big respect to durability of Japanese engineering though!
They salt the roads here like crazy. Everything rusts away. We have a saying that Japenese cars run forever until they rust away. Actually BBC UK had a rather fun spot on Top Gear where they tried to kill an Toyota pick-up. Dropped it from a building complex they blew up, put it out to sea over night, set it on fire and so on... They could not kill the engine and it still could be driven

Sounds like you have the B6 engine..I wouldnt worry too much about the timing belt...it's a non interference engine....You should have an idle adjust screw actually, somewhere near the throttle body. New cap and rotor and plugs and wires would probably help though if it hasnt been done for a while ...check the boots on the CV's for cracks or tears....if there are any, a new boot should make them last a bit longer, and you can do that without removing the axle...the vibration while idling is most likely because it is idling too low...does it smooth out when you blip the throttle ?

Yes, I got the registration papers today. It's a BG chassis. I've taken some pictures. Be warned, it's not cleaned at all. It's dirty I even took some engine pictures and found a sticker saying B6 something. So I assume that's the engine code...
