Vibrating accelleration

Hey guys, I need some help. I've refrained from posting here for fear of somebody telling me to "get a heynes manual" or "read previous threads" but I've tried, and I cant find ANYTHING. I'm having a problem with my car vibrating pretty badly when i accelerate in third and fourth, i don't really notice it in first or second, but when i hit the gas in third especially, it just shakes and has very poor acceleration. I expect that because it's only a SOHC, but it's exceptionally slow. It's been suggested to me that I check the timing. Anyone had a similar problem, or know anything about this?

my pro did the same thing when the timing was off. i had to shift way down to 2nd to go up hills. i would start there

ok, i have a little more information ragarding my problem that might help somebody diagnose it. My car is not shuddering at certain rpm's, it's at certain speed. It does it at right before 50 k, until just after 60k perhour, no matter what gear i'm in. Now it only happens when there's load on the engine, so, if i'm accelerating, it will vibrate at those speeds, but if i'm going downhill, or at a consistant speed, it won't. Anyone have any ideas?

it might be your axels

they can wear out without the boot tearing

yeahh thats sound like a bad axle

jack your car up and start moveing stuff around untill you find something with play in it.

How do i check my axles? i just assumed that wasn't the problem cause every problem i've had with axle's before has started with clicking through corners

grab the axel while the car is jacked up (the middle of the axel) and move it up down side to side and feel for any play that you would think would cause vibrations at high speeds, also check for ripped boots too, just in case

do that to both axels

I've been told that there's a vibration dampener on the axle itself that oculd possible be the culprit, little donut shapen thing, is it posible to adjust or replace this independant of the axle? (passenger side)

i dont mean to be an a$$, but we could talk all day about what the problem could be. but the only way to now for sure is to get your hands dirty. pull the axle out and check it out, take it to a parts store and have them check it out, buy a new one and be done with it.

have you considered that perhaps not everyone here is as mechanically inclined as you?

I checked both te axles, the driver side one has been replaced very recently and is in very good shape, and there is no visible wear on the passenger side halfshaft. i got it on jackstands and tried wiggling things, all the rods and things down there sem to be tight as well. I also checked my motor mounts, they're good as well. I also had it brought to a mechanic yesterday, and after taking it for a drive, he had no idea. I'm still screwed

put your car in neutral and rev it up slowly and see if the motor jumps around. if it doesnt jump around you could try pland B (its kinda dangerous so be carefull) put the car on jack stands, start the motor, and have someone drive it threw the gears, and maybee you can see whats wobbleing.you should be able to see the axles without getting under the car.(i wouldn get under it running)
dumb question, whens the last time youve gotten your tires ballanced. the weights could have fallen off.

First of all they're not called axels, this is a front wheel drive car, they are called a half-shaft or a CV. Second off when they go out they will click when you turn, usually not vibrate, and if they are clicking while you are driving in a straight line then it's time to chang them. Plus if it was the half-shaft, it wouldn't just vibrate in just third and fourth gear. Is it vibrating at somewhat high revs or through the whole acceleration. My bet is on your timing or it just needs some new sperk plugs. Lata'.
