1997 1.5L - Tune up and Timing Question(s)
Hello all ^_^,
I have just recently done a tune-up on my 1.5L DOHC Protege. And, one thing i did (which was stupid of me), was take the distributor all the way off to replace the cap and rotor. Now, When I check the timing with a timing light it shows up at 10 (where it should be). but, isn't the computer just doing advance timing. Does this matter?
The Workshop manual says that i need the System selector tool (B019 9A0) to put the computer into diagnostic mode. Do I really need to buy another tool? is there just a pair of pins i can short?
Also, since the Tune-up i have been getting "clicking" at high revs (past 5K). Bad plugs? I used a fuel injector detergent (no help).
Also, My mechanic said that my distributor O-ring is leaking.. which seems odd to me. But, I cant find this part anywhere (on the web). Anyone know of a good Online Dealer for Mazda parts?
Thanks a bunch

Jump the "ten" and "grd" pins in the dianostic connector under the hood. Your car will not be computer controlled for the idle and timing . Don't forget to set the base idle before you adjust the timing and don't forget to remove the jumper wire.

Diagnostic Port Pin-Outs
One thing i found obnoxious with my Workshop manual was that it didn't have the pin-outs for the Diagnostic port..
but, here is a pic of the pin-outs i found.
