Adjustable Camshafts

I thought that a preformance camshaft, or these adjustables would give you better preformance?

isnt this how they work:

Let more in in, close off the vbalves at the last possible milisecond, and open them late to let exhaust out? I thought preformance cams were just another way to get more air into your engine? do these give you any preformance increase?

Performance cams do do that , but the adjustable camshaft gear , if I am correct , mainly helps with adjusting the timing , I remeber Tripoint telling me that if I was going for big hp , the adjustable camshaft sprocket would help with many other mods added, but to a factory engine it would not be worth much ...

yup , gude.com makes them you have to call mr.gude though he also makes a complete head package , wich would give about another 40 or so hp

I think a port and polish would be cool for the 1.5 , would help breath more life into the engine and out .... also gude makes headers for the 1.5 , but they said that it would not make much difference cause the car dynoed like 1hp difference, they say the protege comes with a tubular desighn already and it is pretty good .....
the guys at Tri point were telling me that they could help set up a computer system and feul system if I got the gude head package (wich by the way I do have the dough for if I wanted it 1500 bucks , approx.) I would imagine the pro would push about 150 to 160 hp , with these mods and then tuning ,, .... add more get more ,, and it would all be NA , wich usually gets a lot more respect at the track

well, i emailed me gude, so hopefully they email back...

for now, im slowly trying to go all motor with the 1.5...
im going to get an aluminum flyhwheel, centreforce dualfriction, then the head and cams and possibly the headers...
id have to find a place that would be able to tune it so I can get as much out of the 1.5 as possible...

then if the car satisfys me with performance, I will up the compression with custom pistons, and then that would probably be it for the motor

if the car still was too slow, id keep the factory pistons and I would try to run low boost with a small turbo
then i would be set

i feel the car has potential, especially that now i hear that gude makes stuff for the 1.5

id expect around a 30-40 hp increase goin all motor
except that there would be no lag or restriction on the motor

are u considering this at all bruce or are 4 sure goin turbo?

hey what if you got both turbo and get the whole head and cam and all that stuff done? can you do both? and how much would that do for the engine?

yes it would be possible to do both, but it would be expensive...

but u would have a killer 1.5L
if anyone ever did it, they probably would have the fastest 1.5L 2nd gen ever
they would have like 200 wheel horsepower out of a 1.5L
AWESOME!

i just got an email from them and it said the deal for the protege is 1650 and core is 500 so i guess after you send the old parts to them its 1150 for an added 40-50 hp then a couple grand more for a low boost turbo that's got to be another 40-50. I definantly think i'm going to do this, just have to save up enough, maybe i can get it by next spring, that would be awesome. I'm going to call monday and make sure its the price for the 1.5 and not 1.8 though
