Before doing the swap?
I like bruce am planning on doing the 1.8L swap, after i get the engine and find the place to have it done and what not what are some parts i can have put on the engine to increase hp and perfomance before it goes into the car? I plan on adding turbo shortly after the engine is in but what can i do before it aside form a better intake.

it depends what you want to spend on it really.
simple things like porting and polishing the head will clean up a second-hand engine and help you out for n/a as well as when you go turbo. you can get your cams ground for a mild turbo application which will give you a little help n/a as well.
if you have the engine out of the car you can get it balanced, install a lighter flywheel - hell if you are intending on running heaps of boost, forged pistons would be cool.
really tho, if you're planning on a turbo installation, that stuff isn't actually necessary so i'd recommend saving your money for a standalone computer, intercooler and a set of bigger injectors instead. the payoffs will come when you finally strap that turbo on and don't have any fuel related problems like so many turbo pro owners are having.
don't forget to do your engine mounts while you're there or you'll never get all that power to the ground!

Are there aftermarket hearders for the 1.8L? The intercooler and bigger injectors wo'nt do much without turbo i'm guess so i should probably pick them up but wait until i have the turbobut what about the stand alone comp will that do anything for the na engine?

Mazdaspeed engine mounts
better clutch
light weight flywheel
underdrive pulley
like someone else said, maybe p&p the head and intake manifold.
Check the FAq and you can find out what years of Miata Cam will fit in your car then I'm sure if you go to a miata forum you'll be able to find some stock cams for sale.
They are a little bit more agressive than the stock protege cams so they should make a difference.
There is a header for the first gen which accordig to the faq, can be made to fit in a second gen with a few mods.

i checked corksport for some of the stuff, does engergy make engine mounts for the pro? i've heard alot of good about them, does anyone carry some of the stuff for the 1.8L cause corksport doesn't seem to have much.
What about the Quaife ATB differential that is a huge chunk of cash, does anyone know if it is any good?
