Question BP-T in a 97 1.5 liter Protege?

Hi, im very new at this whole thing. I bought a 97 protege back in july of 04, I got it for a pretty good deal but it doesn't have any power. I have been looking pretty deeply into an engine swap with a BP turbo. Will this work? Will it be bolt on? i don't think it will but im a newbie so im not sure. Also if anyone knows any figures on how much it would cost to have it installed they would be much appreciated. Right now i have the 1.5(think its the ZE engine)in my car i now for sure that i would have to get new engine mounts and everything but would i have to get a whole new tranny too? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

If you need any info on the engine this is where I am considering purchasing it. http://www.jdmenginedepot.com/catalo...products_id=59

Its easy enough to get the engine to run, but the main problem is with wiring. Having the GTX ECU and harness is a definite advantage. Or a standalone, but unless you know something about wiring, and have the FSM for both the GTX and your current model, wiring the chassis harness, gauges etc. wil be very difficult. You'll also need a G series tranny from a 95 ES unless you can find a first gen LX/GT tranny and decide you want to take the time to figure out what you need to change to make it work with the second gen. But nobody has bothered doing that yet.

So it would probably smart just to get a different car? Considering the cost and then the overall vehicle potential? Thanks a bunch

Well, you could just swap a BP from an ES model and turbo that.
The Z5 is really, well crappy for anything besides fuel economy.

For that to work i would have to get the transmission for one too right? I did look into that and i was wondering if you knew where to get a turbo kit or if i would have to make it myself, you know custom piping and stuff. thanks

turbo kit for............. which engine??
the z5?? I know there was one for sale not too long ago, but i doubt it still is.
For the BP, you could get the GTX manifold from corksport or somewhere else (ebay perhaps) as well as the turbo and go from there.
If you jusst want to swap to the BP then you can keep the Fseries tranny, though you'll need the bell housing and probably the axles from the BP donor car that you find your other **** from.
But if you're planning on swapping the BP and then turboing it later on, you might as well find a tranny from a 95 ES and swap it right at the start rather than doing the engine and then like a year later going turbo and swapping the tranny then.
Keep in mind that the differences in model years of second gens make things difficult.
yor BEST option would be to find a wrecked ES and get the Engine, harness and ECU from the same car, preferably the same model year you have. I'm not privy to all the details of the swap but these threads should help
