Gauging interest II...z5 header

Okay, almost nobody wanted a phenolic gasket/heatshield. I can understand that. I'll be happy enough with mine this summer when temperatures start climbing.

So how about a header for the dx/lx z5 engine? I know I want one but nobody makes one (that I've found, anyway).
I have a friend who runs a performance shop. They weld a lot of custom turbo manifolds and he thinks he can do a naturally aspirated header for the z5.

To be worth it, he would need 5 people to commit. He thinks he can get the price in around what a name brand header costs.

I've seen people gripe that no one makes performance parts for the z5 motor...here's a golden opportunity.

Gude makes a header for the Z5 ......
or made...
they stoped making them because they said that it was a waste of money to replace the headers, and that the z5 comes with a tubular design already .. Mr.Gude also said that the headers did not make more than a 1hp difference when he dynoed it ....
I am just posting this to let you know , not contradicting or trying to influence your group buy...
I honestly think that the connecter between the manifold and the flex joint may be the restrictive point and maybe having an straight pipe placed there could help ,, but who knows ....
Ofcourse I was told the above(about headers) by Mr. Gude himself... ofcourse he said the Head package would really make the z5 make power and at the point Racing beat said they could get me something going to get the feul and what not going ....
But after thinking about it ...
head package =1500 or so w/core
ecu/feul tunning = 900+(or so)

1.8BP swap = 1200 to 1800 (you doing the labour)
I choose the later..
I wish you the best of luck though and if you do go through with it , and need more promotion let me know and I can throw something up on my website ...
Later
Bruce

Thanks bruce...that's good info.
From what I've seen poking around, I'm talking about replacing the whole primary and downpipe, cat and all, and just running a hi flo universal cat a little further down stream.
I know when I opened the exhaust up it made a nice little oomph in power. I was hoping the header would be the same.

I'm gonna get a junkyard header over to my buddy and see if he thinks this is really worth it.

Personally , I think there has to be gains , but the thing is you have to make sure it is Tuned .. not just a slap together header ...
An example would be the Genie Header and the Pacesetter header. From what I could tell it seams like the Genie 2 peace header is a much better header than the pacesetter 1 peace header.. just a bit more money ...
If I still had something to do with my 1.5 . I would consider this mod for sure ...
But the main thing you will need to do is get a picture of a semi-completed version and then it will have to be marketed .. I can try and help you marketing it ... and maybe get them moving...

If you have a U.S. model, as far as I know...all DX and LX models have the z5. The z5 being the dohc 1.5 liter motor.

Canadian models were a little different, right?

I heard you the first time. But all I was asking for either time was INTEREST. Tell me I'm not wasting my time.

But apparently I am. I'm not going to waste my friends time/money getting something like this built and not be able to tell him there's a market.

You idiots blew another chance to get a custom made quality performance piece for a reasonable amount of money. I'm done trying.

Hey Bruce, I knew this was going to happen again. I hate to tell ya davens, but I could have told you this was going to happen too. Bruce remember the time I could have gotten a custom bodykit made for $600, but no one wanted to do it? Shows how many people TRULY want to fix up their cars.... VERY FEW.

It's not just the lack of performance ambitions that bugs me, it's the 2nd gen owners apathy in general that's disgusting.

And look at the traffic here, 2nd gens in particular...I can find more activity on a tibetan quilting forum.
