doing a new motor have a few questions

i am wondering if anyone knows how good the quality on the essential speed cai, intake manifold, and headers are the reason i am inquiring is i am going to build a whole new motor cause mine is about dead. so also if anyone knows a good place to get rebuilt motors and transmission for a 1.8L 95 ES i could use some help? also i am wondering if the gude cams for the escort will work on the motor or if anyone else has cams for the car? and my trans is pretty bad off so i need a new one and i figured might as well throw a flywheel in it so does anyone make those? and does anyone have input on the b&m short shifter cause i do not like my pace setter and want to change it so i am wondering how that is?
thank you for your help.
my email is crash_c4@hotmail.com

Since you are one of very few lucky people in US to have a 1.8L engine, you have more, but not much more, options for your car. Most of us with 95-98 have a 1.5L engine, to which there are almost no parts what so ever. I had to make a custom CAI for my car, others did the same as well. But as for everything else, its going to have to be made custom, cost a lot, and not do much function, because 1.5L engine is just a good mileage engine, thats IT! For your engine you can get pullies, cam gears, and possibly cams, so I am not too sure if the Gude ones will work. There are also some, but not many parts in your engine that interchangeble with some Miatas. But like I said, my knowledge with 1.8 is very limited. But if you won't get much help here, go to www.clubprotege.com you will find more people with 95-98 cars that will help you out. Also check out Protege FAQ The guy who compiled it is on the forum I mentioned above - TheMAN. He is very knowledgable, but he is also very uptight, and does not like to repeat himself. So I would suggest for you to use the SEARCH here as well as there before asking any questions, because they have been asked before, and answered, and sometimes you will only get a link to answer from before. This forum is much older, so it has a lot of good info regarding 2nd generation Protege, but this forum is also dying, and none barely visits here.
Also check out www.corksport.com . They have some good parts, but they also come at a price.
