I might have a engine problem!!!NEED HELP!!!
Hi... I'm new here and I need some help!!!! I have a '96 Protégé and today I saw a light on the instrumental panel. I checked the manual and it's the "Malfunction Indicator Light"... The manual says, "This light shows a problem in the engine electrical system. If it comes on while your driving, consult an Authorized Mazda Dealer as soon as possible."
I don't know anything about that and I need to know if this is something I really should be worry about. I'm afraid something is going to happen.
What could be the problem?? What should I do or how can I fix it??
Please, HELP!!!!

If it the check engine light you are reffering to, then you can get mre specific from Auto Zone. They will perform a test for you, for free, and I am not sure, but not only they will give you the codes, but sometimes the descriptions of them too. But, if you get just codes, post about them here, and some one will help you out, it has happened before. Goodluck.

Im having a similar problem
Check engine light on ... at idle, when warm, it does not idle at one speed, rather, fluxes from 250 to 750 RPM when the air conditioning is on, then comes back to a normal 800 RPM if the air is off. Is this the same type of prolem?

I am going to have my checked this weekend, I will post the results of engine diagnostic then. One thing that I have found to help the rough idle is to move up to a higher grade of gasoline. I was running regular unleaded, Ive now switched to premium and it seems to run a lot smoother. I will keep you guys posted.
