Thumbs up my broken axle ordeal

well last friday I snapped a axle , on a rainy day, when I just got of a work and I had to go down to the south bronx 151st and 3rd ave to get him , see he has a corolla and the distributor cap was cracked and the car would not start , so anyway i get down there turn down a wrong street and when I make a U turn to go back I hear a loud clucking sound anyway , I get to the corner street and the axle lets go , and I have to have the car flat bedded home ,cause the front spoiler is to low for the car to be towed,,,.. anyway

Yesterday I changed the axle, myself, the passenger side axle is the axle that broke and I had absolutely no idea of how to change, reason being is that it is a 2 part axle, and you have to unbolt 3 bolts off of a holder that holds them together and then you can pull the whole axle out and tap out the halfshaft , then replace the other old with the new and reinstall ,,, a really simple job if I may say so , and I intend to change the driver side, ... so guys with 2nd gens make sure you keep an eye on your axles ok
thanks for listening ...
oh yeah I forgot to mention ,, that when the towtruck guy was getting ready to tow my car he kept say how nice the car was and he never saw one like it before and how that bumper and lip was just out of this world , ...... I could not help but agree lol ....

yup and the car feals a lot more solid now , when accelerating and so forth , and I used to have a bad vibration when accelerating , and now that is gone , but however I can tell that the other axle needs to be replaced also ,.. so I will do that on the next warm day I get ...
otherwise , my clutch should be the next project

Changing a little the topic... Did you notice a bearing that goes between the middle axle and the end axle (on the pass side)? Do you think it's tough to take out? I have to replace mine because when I get to 2,500rpm it starts gingling or ratling and it sounds like I'm draggin a frikin metal chain! It drives me nuts. It costs like $40 here but I'm wondering how many days (being sarcastic) it's gonna take me to replace it. I'm also windering if I'm going to need a puller since the bearing is quite wide.

that is not between your axles, that is in the part that is behind the rotor, when the axle slides through and that my friend has to be pressed out , so you should actually just take it to a shop and have them do it ....

Ok I'm writing this a second time because I went downstairs to the car so I could better explain myself. What I'm asking about is... do you know where the passenger side axle "plugs" into and then goes into the transmission. It's like a second axle. When I tap on that second axle it does a jingling. I thought it was a bearing but it isn't. When I accelerate and get around 2,500rpm it starts making noise. Do you know what I mean now?

I just saw something when better examining the Chilton. and I quote "Intermidate shaft-removal and installation (vehicles with 1.8DOHC engines only)" Sorry Bruce I didn't realize yours doesn't have it. But if you can help me its most accepted.
