Question about a computer chip

Hey guys, i came accross this computer chip: http://store.summitracing.com/defaul...earchType=Make
i was wondering, is this thing gonna be a noticible difference in power? or is it basically gonna be $230 for only 5 hp? if this isnt gonna be worth it, is there any other chips i could get? (i have a 97 1.5L engine) thanks

no parts came up when I clicked that link. I'd have to say though that your best bet may be something along the lines of an Apexi S-afc if the older ecu's don't lock them out like the newer ones.

oops, didnt realize that the link didnt work.. and i cant figure out how to get it to work. so here is the description:
Improved computer technology for your import.

Computer Chip/Module, V-Force Controller, Mazda, Each

Using the same computer tuning popularized by JET's Stage 1 and Stage 2 computer modules/chips, these V-Force power control modules use a 20MHz RISC microprocessor to optimize the ignition spark advance and recalibrate the fuel map for optimum horsepower and acceleration. Other features include an LED readout and an on/off override switch.

any ideas??

It would be nice if the add told you hp figures, even a ball park number. For $230, it would need to be on the order of 20 hp at least for me to even start to consider it. No number makes me a little skeptical. I'm in the same boat with you on the 1.5L monster of an engine...I don't know of any other chips. Sorry.

An Apexi S-AFC and S-AFCII are air/fuel controllers that wire onto your ecu harness and alter the injector flow at certain rpm points. Using a wideband O2 and a dyno you can pull fule where you're rich and add it where you're lean. I know newer proteges can't use this tool but in the RX7 community I'm in also they claim 15-24whp depending on what other mods you have. That's a big gain for $300<

On an unmodified engine, even a full standalone is a waste of money.
